According to the Department of Industry and Trade, to develop the coffee market in a sustainable direction, exporting units and enterprises need to focus on developing specialty coffee lines, speeding up the transition from quantity to quality, from raw exports to deep processing to increase competitiveness as well as export value.

At the same time, proactively comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), helping to form a sustainable product supply chain according to a methodical strategy on growing areas, growing area codes, traceability of legal raw materials...

Thereby, meeting the supply source ensures priority choice for the European Union (EU) market. This is also a "passport" to expand the path to penetrate many different markets in the world with strict requirements on standards.

Mr. Tran Hong Minh (Ea Kao commune, Buon Ma Thuot city) was oriented to produce organic coffee by Vuong Thanh Cong Production and Trading Company Limited (Buon Ma Thuot city).

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Director of Dak Lak 2-9 Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak) said that with the vision of becoming a pillar in the agricultural economy of the Central Highlands, a pioneer in coffee production according to EUDR standards and reducing carbon emissions, the company has built a 50,000-hectare raw material area (accounting for 20% of the province's coffee area), linking with 45,000 farming households with updated location and traceability.

Thanks to the proactive application of certification standards and regulations in production and processing, the quality of Dak Lak coffee has been significantly improved. Currently, the whole province has 66,179 hectares of coffee applying certified coffee production processes (accounting for 31% of the province's coffee area).

Simexco Daklak is the third largest coffee exporter in the country, with an output of about 120,000 tons of coffee per year; of which 70% of the output is produced under sustainable certification.

Nowadays, demanding markets like Japan have also begun to require raw material areas to be produced according to EUDR standards and to minimize carbon.

Therefore, in order to maintain high coffee prices and meet strict market standards, the company recommends that farmers should produce sustainably (develop organic coffee, circular economy, green transformation) and continuously improve to meet the requirements of the international market.

Not out of that trend, currently, many people are starting to implement the process of planting, caring for, and processing coffee according to certification.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cu M'gar district, Nguyen Tan Hien, said that the Farmers' Association of the district and related units have supported people in building local raw material areas and guiding coffee growers in sustainable and certified production processes.

Specifically, the association has mobilized farmer members to produce certified coffee (such as UTZ Certified, 4C, fair trade...). Up to now, the whole district has 5,683 participating households, with an area of 8,459 hectares (accounting for 22.4% of the coffee business area), with an estimated registered output of about 26,524 tons.

Ea Kiet Fair Service Agricultural Cooperative (Ea Kiet commune, Cu M'gar district) focuses on developing certified coffee.

As a pioneer in sustainable coffee production that meets international standards, the Ea Tu Fair Service Agricultural Cooperative (Buon Ma Thuot City) has now exported coffee to many countries around the world such as the Netherlands, Japan, Switzerland, England, France, etc. The "key" to achieving this result is that the cooperative has proactively linked with local people to build a sustainable coffee production area. Currently, the cooperative owns more than 60 hectares with Fairtrade certification; linked with 200 farmers to process high-quality coffee, bringing products to specialty coffee competitions in Vietnam and the world.

In addition to developing sustainable coffee production and processing, many farmers, businesses and cooperatives have effectively utilized the benefits and strengths of e-commerce, applying digital technology to business activities to develop their brands, contributing to bringing Dak Lak coffee to many countries around the world.
