Huong Tuoi from 'Meeting at the Weekend': I felt pressured because I wore diamonds and gold while performing.

The film " Heart Rescue Station " brings together a star-studded cast from the "VFC universe" such as People's Artist Thu Ha, Meritorious Artist Pham Cuong, Hong Diem, Luong Thu Trang, Quang Su... However, to date, the character most loved by the audience is not the main character but rather the "uneducated but wealthy" gold shop owner named Men.

Playing the role of Mrs. Mến is actress Hương “Tươi” – a very familiar face from the "Meeting at the Weekend" series. Sharing with VTC News , Hương “Tươi” said she was truly surprised that her role was so loved by the audience.

The scene where Huong "Tuoi" plays the role of Mrs. Men delighted the audience.

"I am proud that I am still loved by the audience to this day."

- It's been a long time since Huong "Tuoi" returned to television. What was the reason you accepted the role of Mrs. Men, the "uneducated but rich" woman, in the series "Heart Rescue Station"?

I only do fewer films for VFC, but I still appear on stage regularly. As for the role of Mrs. Mến, honestly, I didn't like the role very much at first, because it was quite similar to the characters I had played before.

Throughout my youth, I've played feisty, formidable women. So, if director Vu Truong Khoa hadn't invited me, I wouldn't have accepted the role of Mrs. Men in the film "Heart Rescue Station."

- Returning to the small screen after a long absence, but accepting a supporting role and a look much older than your actual age, do you feel disadvantaged?

I'm not picky about whether I play a leading or supporting role; once I accept a role, I'll do my best to make the character "well-developed," just like everyone has seen in Mrs. Mến.

Regarding character portrayal, about 20 years ago I would focus on whether I looked pretty on screen or not. But now, I no longer care whether my character is pretty or ugly, fake or young.

Honestly, whether I look prettier now or make myself look uglier, the audience will still recognize me as Huong "Tuoi". I've had many roles where I looked much uglier and older than Mrs. Men.

For me right now, what matters most is whether the film will be well-received by the audience, and how people will react to my character.

Fresh scent

For me right now, what matters most is whether the film will be well-received by the audience, and how people will react to my character.

- Usually, viewers remember the character's name more than the name of the actress playing it. But in your case, as soon as Ms. Mến appeared on screen, many people started calling her Hương “Tươi”. What do you think about this?

Of course I feel happy. In fact, in real life, wherever I go and whatever I do, the audience always recognizes me as Huong "Tuoi" from "Meeting at the Weekend".

I am proud that, even though I no longer appear on television regularly, I am still remembered and loved by the audience.

Hương

Hương "Tươi" portrays the character of Mrs. Mến.

- Ms. Mến is a supporting character with few scenes, yet she has won the most affection from viewers of the film "Heart Rescue Station". Are you satisfied with this reaction from the audience?

As I said, I didn't really expect much when I took on the role of Mrs. Mến. However, my principle is that once I accept a role, I have to put my heart and soul into developing the character to the best of my ability. But to be honest, this is just a very small role; compared to my previous roles, Mrs. Mến doesn't offer any breakthroughs in terms of acting or image, and I played the role very easily.

So when I read comments from viewers like, "Amazing," "Absolutely fantastic,"... I was truly astonished.

As an artist, it's natural to be happy and delighted to receive praise from the audience. I'm even happier because the audience's reaction exceeded my expectations.

During filming, I thought my role might get some attention from the audience, but I figured people would just react like, "Oh, it's her again," and that's it. But unexpectedly, when the show aired, people loved "her" so much. I even came across many adorable comments like, "I suggest the director shift the main storyline to Mrs. Mến," and "Give more screen time to Mến and Đình."

I don't think even during the peak of my career, I've ever encountered such a positive reaction from the audience.

"The audience's reaction exceeded my expectations."

- In your opinion, why are audiences so "obsessed" with the character of Mrs. Mến, even though the film features many stars from your era such as People's Artist Thu Hà, Meritorious Artist Phạm Cường, and even popular young stars like Hồng Diễm and Quang Sự?

I think the audience liked the character of Mrs. Mến so much not because I acted exceptionally well, but perhaps because it had been a long time since they'd "met" me, plus the character's dialogue was quite humorous and lighthearted compared to the overall atmosphere of the film, which is why the character made such a good impression.

Honestly, when I first watched the scenes where I played Mrs. Mến, I felt it was just average. But because the audience commented so much and loved "her" so much, I kept watching them over and over again and realized that my character... was alright.

There are still many regrets regarding the role of the gold shop owner.

- Even though she's currently the most beloved character in the series, it seems she's still not entirely satisfied with her performance as Mrs. Mến?

I received the script quite late, just one day before filming began. At that time, the script wasn't complete, and I hadn't even read the scripts for the other characters, so I didn't know if Mrs. Mến was a good or bad person, or how the characters would interact with me.

So I just acted according to my own feelings, and when the film aired, knowing the conflicts between the characters and the storylines, especially knowing how much the audience cared about the role of Mrs. Mến, I felt even more regretful.

If I had more time to study the entire script, I would have portrayed the role of Mrs. Mến in a more nuanced, realistic, and emotional way.

Currently, only one-third of the filming is complete, and the script isn't fully finished yet. Perhaps there will be an opportunity for Mrs. Mến to appear in a more interesting way.

Huong

Huong "Tuoi" felt regretful that the role of Mrs. Men didn't have the depth she had hoped for.

- Playing the role of the owner of a jewelry store, you must have had a hard time preparing the costumes and accessories to "look the part" right?

I usually invest in my own costumes and accessories for my roles. Knowing that this character was the owner of a gold shop and had a rather hot-tempered personality, I prepared a few fake gold rings.

But then I realized it wasn't a good idea because fake rings cost hundreds of thousands of dong each, and after filming, I wouldn't be able to use them for anything, which would be wasteful, so I decided to use my real jewelry.

The scene where I talk to My Dinh (Thuy Diem) after her divorce was filmed at a jewelry store. At that time, I had forgotten all my jewelry at home, so I had to borrow some from the counter. The staff were very cooperative, readily lending me diamond-studded pieces, and in that scene, I was wearing all real, high-value gold.

But that also put some pressure on me, because I was afraid I might lose or misplace their belongings. Before filming, I carefully asked the staff to take pictures of the items I borrowed as "props" so that I could return them intact later.

The

The "props" used in the scene where Mrs. Mến confronts her former son-in-law and daughter are all made of real gold.

- Hương “Tươi” is considered “the entire childhood sky” for the 80s and 90s generations. Do you plan for your children to follow in your footsteps?

I have two children; my eldest daughter is in her second year of university, majoring in Communications, and my youngest son is currently in 11th grade but doesn't seem to have any artistic talent.

- Do you regret that none of your children followed in your footsteps as actors?

I have no regrets at all, because art is a unique profession with a very fierce competition for survival. In our time, out of an entire course, only a handful of people remained in the profession.

I've always felt fortunate that my children are well-behaved and academically successful. Whatever career path they choose, I'm proud of them and willing to support them to the best of my ability.

Thank you!
