Statistics from Hanoi Metro show that from August 20 to now, Hanoi Metro has piloted the electronic identification, authentication, and biometric recognition system on the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway line and received support and active participation from the people with nearly 9,000 registrants and more than 116,000 passengers using it.
For passengers using single-trip tickets, from November 18, passengers with smartphones can download and install the Hanoi Metro App to buy single-trip tickets and will receive a single-trip ticket QR code on the App to use through the ticket gate. Passengers who do not have smartphones to install the Hanoi Metro App will buy single-trip tickets at the ticket counter and will be given a QR Code ticket stamp to use one trip through the ticket gate (the QR Code ticket is only issued once when purchasing a ticket).
Passengers over 60 years old who are exempt from ticket fees according to the city's policy will use their ID card/citizen ID card with chip to go through the ticket gate or download the Hanoi Metro App and identify themselves to receive free tickets on the Hanoi Metro App.

For passengers who have purchased and are using electronic tickets issued by the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center on a pilot basis (pilot virtual ticket cards), passengers can go to the ticket counter to receive instructions and support in providing converted electronic tickets with equivalent ticket types, ticket prices, and validity periods for convenient use on the newly upgraded System during the validity period of the pilot virtual ticket cards.
Hanoi Metro believes that the application of identification technology, electronic authentication and biometric recognition will open up new steps in management, operation and better passenger service. The new system not only improves safety, minimizes risks, increases convenience, but also contributes to building the image of smart, modern public transport, true to the goal: "safety - convenience - environmental friendliness".
From November 3-18, Hanoi Metro will convert identification information and time-based tickets (daily tickets, weekly tickets, monthly tickets) of passengers using the old system (chip-based ticket cards) to the new system (electronic tickets/NFC cards/citizen ID cards/EMV cards) with the remaining value on the card kept the same and no conversion fee. The conversion will be carried out at 12 stations of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway line. Passengers should bring their ID cards/chip-based citizen ID cards and smartphones to convert their old tickets.
From November 10-15, Hanoi Metro will temporarily stop selling daily, weekly and monthly tickets under the old system at ticket counters to upgrade the system. Passengers can still buy single-trip tickets in the old form at the automatic ticket machines at the station to travel and continue to buy weekly and monthly tickets at the ticket counters but under the new ticket card model (electronic tickets on mobile phones with identification/or electronic tickets attached to citizen identification/or NFC cards for unidentified children). During this time, the station will still maintain the operation of 2 old ticket gates at each station to serve passengers who are using old tickets and have not had time to switch.
Hanoi Metro also recommends that passengers should take the time to proactively make the transition to the new system before November 15 to receive support and promptly handle any issues that arise during the transition process, avoiding wasting time waiting in line at the last minute.
