Ms. Lien and her husband will bring their mother and two children here for 3 days and 2 nights to experience the hot springs and enjoy a Japanese-style vacation.
"In the months leading up to Tet, my husband and I are very busy with our business. Therefore, we believe that Tet is a time for rest and rejuvenation. It's also a time when our children have a long school break, making it convenient for trips," said Ms. Lien.
For about five years now, Lien's family has been traveling during Tet (Lunar New Year). Last year, they went on a vacation to Hoa Binh province , then to Phu Quy island to experience Tet. They prioritize resorts and hotels with full amenities and services, avoiding crowds.

Ms. Hang Bui's family ( Hanoi ) also has a habit of traveling during Tet (Lunar New Year). She and her husband have driven across Vietnam twice with their parents and children to various resorts… “My family believes that wherever there is family, there is Tet,” Ms. Hang said.
According to many travel agencies, the demand for travel during Tet (Lunar New Year) is increasing among Vietnamese tourists, especially young people and families with two or three generations. They are looking for a complete holiday or to explore new places instead of being overwhelmed with cleaning and feasting during Tet.
Statistics from travel company Vietluxtour show that the number of customers booking Tet holiday tours increased by 25% compared to 2024. The main group of customers came from major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Best Price also recorded a 30% increase in Tet holiday tour bookings.
According to Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of Best Price, tour prices during Tet (Lunar New Year) have increased by 10-15%.
For domestic itineraries, tourists prefer tours experiencing the cool climate of the North, such as Sa Pa, Moc Chau, Ha Giang, and Hanoi. In Central Vietnam, Da Nang and Hoi An remain attractive destinations.
For overseas tours, Thailand and China are the most popular destinations, along with Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
"Tours to Thailand departing on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days of the Lunar New Year have very high booking rates, priced at around 11 million VND per person. Tours to Shanghai and Taiwan (China) usually depart before the Lunar New Year, around the 27th day of the lunar month, priced at around 20 million VND per person," Mr. Tu said.
For tours to China, customers prefer air travel over land travel, unlike at other times of the year.
Skiing is a particularly popular experience among Vietnamese tourists, therefore tours such as Chongqing – Jiuzhaigou – Jiagushan Skiing, Chongqing – Jinfoshan Skiing, and Qiaozi Mountain Skiing have high occupancy rates from early on.
Domestically, many travel companies are investing in renewing and diversifying tour products at familiar destinations to meet the growing demands of tourists.
For example, with its Hoi An resort tour, Thien Minh Tourism Group has incorporated the experience of riding vintage sidecar motorcycles to participate in the Cau Bong festival in Tra Que. Tra Que vegetable village was recently recognized by UN Tourism as the "Best Tourist Village" in 2024.
Tours to Chau Doc (An Giang) now offer the added experience of having a traditional Vietnamese dress (áo dài) made quickly, while tours of the Can Tho waterways include a night cruise.

This Tet holiday, Vietravel has chosen to introduce many green tours and routes, with activities for the environment and the community, helping tourists not only enjoy sightseeing but also contribute to nature conservation.
For example, in Ninh Binh, there will be a journey connecting tourists with activities such as tree planting, experiencing "bringing animals home," learning about rescue and conservation efforts for primate species; and exploring Van Long Lagoon – known as the "bay without waves"...
Meanwhile, Vietluxtour offers tours exploring Saigon of the past and Ho Chi Minh City of the present, including the Saigon Commando tour, allowing visitors to experience the culture, history, and cuisine right in the city.
"To meet the ever-increasing demands of our customers, we design bespoke products, tailored to their needs and preferences, instead of mass-produced tours," said Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Director of Marketing and Communications at Vietluxtour.
A three-generation family rented a 'mobile home' and spent 40 million VND on a road trip throughout Tet . Ms. Trang's family embarked on a journey of over 2,000km, exploring from Hanoi to Quang Nam in their "mobile home" during the Tet holiday of the Year of the Dragon. The trip was a fulfillment of a long-held dream for the seven family members.
