The opening speech presented by comrade Than Hai Nam, Chairman of Yen The District People's Committee, stated that the Yen The uprising broke out in 1884 in the context of the French colonialists having basically completed the process of invading our country. With the opening victory at Duc Lan, Phu Binh District ( Thai Nguyen ), De Nam (aka Luong Van Nam) and the patriots returned to The Loc communal house, now Ha communal house, Tan Trung Commune (Tan Yen) to hold a flag-raising ceremony on March 16, 1884, officially launching the uprising.

In March 1892, De Nam was murdered. Hoang Hoa Tham (also known as De Tham) - a talented general of the insurgent army stood up to continue raising the flag of uprising, becoming the leader with the nickname "Yen The Gray Tiger".
Hoang Hoa Tham consolidated and gathered forces to organize a flag-raising ceremony at Dong communal house, Bich Dong ward (Viet Yen town) on December 19, 1892. From then on, Hoang Hoa Tham officially became the leader and "soul" of the Yen The uprising. With outstanding military talent, the cloth-clothed hero Hoang Hoa Tham relied on the mountains and forests to organize many brave and daring battles, making the French invaders scared and terrified many times, forcing the French colonialists to make concessions and sign peace treaties twice.
The uprising is a convincing demonstration of the latent power of the peasants, contributing many valuable experiences to the treasure trove of Vietnamese military history, especially the art of guerrilla warfare, people's war, establishing fighting villages, fighting and negotiating at the same time...
A large number of people and tourists came to watch and enjoy the art program at the opening ceremony. |
The bravery, spirit and patriotism of leader Luong Van Nam, cloth hero Hoang Hoa Tham and the Yen The insurgents have been deeply engraved in the minds of many generations of Yen The people in particular and the Vietnamese people in general, becoming an immortal epic of patriotism and indomitable will to fight against foreign invaders of our people.
