Opening of the Khmer Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival in An Giang province

Taking place from November 4 to 6 (15 to 17 of the 9th lunar month), the festival has many activities such as: moon worship ceremony; trade fair and introduction of local products; display of images and artifacts of Khmer people; exhibition, display and introduction of books...

In particular, the highlight of the festival is the Ngo boat race. According to the Organizing Committee, the festival's activities attracted about 200,000 - 250,000 people from inside and outside the province to participate.

In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho said: The annual Khmer Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival is a traditional cultural activity of great and practical significance, aiming to preserve, honor and promote traditional cultural identity, and care for the spiritual life of the Khmer ethnic people in the province.

The festival is also an opportunity for ethnic groups in general and the Khmer ethnic group in the South in particular to raise their sense of responsibility for traditional culture, and to strengthen the strength of the great national unity bloc. Through the activities of the festival, the aim is to honor, promote and introduce the cultural values of the Khmer people in the province to the people of the whole country, so that ethnic groups have the opportunity to meet, exchange and participate in cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities, creating solidarity and cohesion among ethnic groups.

From there, promote the image of the local cultural festival to tourists inside and outside the province; demonstrate the attention of the Party and State to the preservation and development of the cultural values of the Khmer people in the integration trend of the country; create conditions to promote socio -economic development, care for the material and spiritual life of the people better and better, so that the Khmer people and the whole country can enter a new era, an era of national growth.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the Ngo boat race took place with exciting events such as 800m men's, 800m mixed men's and women's and 1,200m men's.
