An Giang also has the West Sea and the Mekong River headwaters, which are the trade hubs within the Mekong Delta region, connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh and the Gulf of Thailand. The economic development space is expanded with a harmonious combination of the delta, border, sea and islands, creating favorable conditions for comprehensive economic development, multi-sector and multi-sector development.
The province also has 3 special economic zones: Kien Hai, Phu Quoc, Tho Chau. Located on the international shipping route and near many economic centers of Southeast Asia, Phu Quoc special economic zone has great advantages in trade, tourism and international connections. The island's infrastructure is increasingly invested in synchronously and modernly, notably the expansion of Phu Quoc international airport, increasing passenger capacity and expanding the road network and seaports to serve tourism and logistics.
Besides the economy, An Giang has great advantages in terms of resources, traditional culture, and is home to ethnic communities, mainly Kinh, Hoa, Cham, and Khmer. The province has many diverse tangible and intangible cultural heritages such as: Ba Chua Xu Festival in Sam Mountain, Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival, Oc Eo - Ba The Cultural Relics, temple architecture, stilt houses, traditional craft villages, etc. These are all valuable materials for developing cultural industries (film production, applied arts, cultural tourism, etc.).
An Giang has an area of over 9,888km2, with all the elements of “plain, forest, sea”; “border, inland”; a population of nearly 5 million people, leading the Mekong Delta, creating a large domestic consumer market and attracting domestic and foreign investment capital. This is also an area that ensures national defense, security, and food security.
Reaching out for development
Recently, many breakthrough transport infrastructure projects for the Mekong Delta and An Giang have been invested in, paving the way, positively impacting the socio-economic development of the province. Especially inter-provincial and inter-regional infrastructure projects such as: Expressway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta; Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway, Ho Chi Minh Road project Rach Soi - Ben Nhut, Go Quao - Vinh Thuan; Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu Expressway; coastal road connecting with Ca Mau province; coastal road section Rach Gia - Hon Dat and Hon Dat - Kien Luong. "From these important transport routes, the province will have the opportunity to welcome a new wave of investment, connecting more closely with the global supply chain and production chain", Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc emphasized.
The previous limitations, overlaps and bottlenecks in institutions, mechanisms and policies on investment, land, housing, trade and services are being completed by the province. The investment and business environment has been improved, creating favorable conditions for enterprises to implement projects and conduct production and business activities better.
Party Central Committee member and Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai emphasized that by 2030, the province strives to become a fairly developed province of the country, a strong, dynamic and deeply integrated maritime economic center. This is a goal that is both strategic and demonstrates the strong aspiration of the Party Committee, government and people of An Giang in the new period.
To achieve that goal, the province focuses on developing on 5 strategic pillars: Innovating the growth model associated with breakthroughs in science, technology, digital transformation and innovation; applying high technology in agriculture, processing industry and logistics services; comprehensive digital transformation in management, production, trade, tourism, forming digital government, digital economy, digital society; developing education, training, health care, improving the quality of human resources.
At the same time, create a favorable environment for the private economy to become an important driving force, encourage the formation of large corporations and enterprises to invest in priority areas; attract strategic investors to the Long Xuyen, Chau Doc, Rach Gia, Ha Tien Quadrangle and Phu Quoc special zone, form a linked economic value chain, spreading throughout the region.
We believe that with strategic vision, breakthrough steps, high political determination and synchronous solutions, An Giang will effectively exploit its potential, transform advantages into driving forces, and make important contributions to the development of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.
