On the morning of August 8, the Ho Chi Minh City Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects held a groundbreaking ceremony for the social housing project at 4 Phan Chu Trinh (Binh Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
The project consists of 3 apartment blocks with a height of 20 floors, with a total of 864 apartments with an area of 40-76m² (1-3 bedrooms).
Expected to be completed in 2027, to resettle people affected by dredging projects, environmental improvement, infrastructure construction of Xuyen Tam canal and other cases.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that this project has many important goals, including ensuring the target of developing social housing for the entire city.
According to Mr. Cuong, after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Ho Chi Minh City was assigned the target of completing a total of 199,400 social housing units in the 10-year period from 2021 to 2030.
Of which, the 2021-2025 period is expected to complete over 18,000 units. The 2026-2030 period will continue to complete 181,000 social housing units.
Mr. Cuong emphasized that this is a very high requirement to ensure social development targets not only for the city but also for the whole country.
Meanwhile, this social housing project directly serves households affected by the environmental improvement project and Xuyen Tam canal renovation project in the old Binh Thanh district.
"The Xuyen Tam canal project affects more than 2,000 households and about 1,030 households must be relocated for resettlement. Households that do not meet the conditions for resettlement will be considered for social housing policies in this project," said Mr. Cuong.
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee requested units to focus on construction with the spirit of "model projects" and shorten the progress, striving to complete the project by the end of 2026.
