Hundreds of soldiers and people cleared the ground, dug the foundation and laid the first bricks in the "Quang Trung campaign" to rebuild houses for people in flooded areas.

If the weather is unfavorable, we will work at night to maintain progress, striving to complete before January 15, 2026 so that people can have a home to celebrate Tet.

Lieutenant Colonel VO TRUNG HIEU (Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 143)

People cried tears of joy

In Phu Huu village, where floodwaters once covered the roofs of houses, the groundbreaking atmosphere was bustling with the sound of excavators and shovels on the flood-marked ground.

The first house to break ground belonged to Mr. Tran Hoang Long, one of 98 households that were completely destroyed. The construction unit said it would be completed in two months so that the family could celebrate Tet in their new home.

Not far away, Mr. Le Van Hoi, 48 years old, stood next to the foundation of his house that had just begun to be repaired, his eyes red as he recalled the days when his whole family had to take temporary shelter after the flood.

"The government took care of everything, the army rebuilt it, and everyone in the neighborhood helped. Thinking about having a new house this Tet, I was so happy I cried," he said.

Over the past few days, the 143rd Regiment, 315th Division (Military Region 5) has been continuously stationed in Hoa Thinh to help the people overcome the consequences. From clearing mud, re-stocking property, repairing schools and medical stations to clearing roads to villages, all have been deployed from early morning to late evening.

Soldier Le Minh Quoc (Squad 5, Company 2, Regiment 143) said that his brothers cleared mud, repaired schools, medical stations, and cleared roads.

"The most important task now is to rebuild houses for people. We are determined to do it quickly and firmly so that people can soon return to normal life," Quoc shared.

Lieutenant Colonel Vo Trung Hieu, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 143, said that immediately after the flood receded, on November 22, more than 200 officers and soldiers were mobilized to Hoa Thinh. When the situation stabilized, the unit immediately moved to the stage of rebuilding houses with about 230 people, divided into many teams to prioritize rebuilding completely collapsed houses.

Mobilize all forces, complete ahead of schedule

According to Lieutenant Colonel Hieu, in Phu Huu village, there are 9 houses that have collapsed and are severely damaged, of which 6 are completely lost. To ensure progress, the regiment is sending more machinery and equipment to the scene.

"If the weather is unfavorable, we will work at night to maintain progress, striving to complete before January 15, 2026 so that people can have a home to celebrate Tet," Lieutenant Colonel Hieu affirmed.

According to the plan, the campaign to rebuild houses for 684 collapsed households in Dak Lak will be implemented in the model of 48m² houses, with mezzanines to ensure safety when floods come. The construction value of each house is more than 170 million VND, of which the State supports 60 million VND, the rest is mobilized from socialization and other capital sources.

Of these, Military Region 5 undertook the construction of more than 260 houses, in coordination with provincial forces and more than 100 teams of workers, each team of 12-15 people with skilled workers leading the way, along with mechanical equipment to shorten the time.

Ensure people have new houses before Tet

According to the leader of Military Region 5, the three provinces of Gia Lai , Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa have more than 1,500 houses damaged after storms and floods. Major General Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5, emphasized the need for speed, boldness and determination to ensure people have new houses before Tet.

"Localities are requested to prepare adequate land and materials for uninterrupted construction. To ensure rapid and drastic construction, the military region has established a forward command post in Tuy Hoa (formerly Phu Yen, now part of Dak Lak - PV) to jointly direct the forces participating in the mission," said Mr. Hai.
