The annual UOB Painting of the Year competition - UOB Bank's flagship arts programme, was first held in Singapore in 1982 with the aim of recognising artists in the Southeast Asian region and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their works to the wider community.

The competition was later expanded to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and in 2023 to Vietnam. It is the longest-running art competition in Singapore and one of the most prestigious in Southeast Asia. Since its inception, the competition has helped discover more than 1,100 artistic talents across the region.
After two years of being held in Vietnam, the competition has attracted the participation of thousands of young artists and professional artists across the country. In the second time (2024), the competition honored 6 talented Vietnamese artists in two categories: Promising Artist and Established Artist, in which the highest award, UOB Painting of the Year, went to artist Nguyen Viet Cuong with the work "Dong Chua" and the Promising Artist award was given to artist Phan Tu Tran with the work "Doraeco".

The third annual UOB Painting of the Year competition in Vietnam (2025) is officially accepting entries from 7 May to 1 August 2025. All Vietnamese citizens and permanent residents are eligible to participate. Entries must be original, created within the last 2 years and must not have previously won an award in another competition.
Each artist is allowed to submit a single work with recommended dimensions no larger than 180cm on each side. Preliminary round entries will be submitted as digital photographs.
The jury of the competition includes famous artists and leading experts in painting: Painter Dang Xuan Hoa, Chairman of the Painting Arts Council - Vietnam Fine Arts Association; Painter Le Thua Tien; Painter Do Hoang Tuong; Ms. Pamela Nguyen Corey.
The winners of the third annual UOB Painting of the Year competition in Vietnam will be announced in October. The top winner in Vietnam will receive a VND500 million prize and a chance to compete for the prestigious UOB Painting of the Year Southeast Asia award, as well as be selected to participate in a special artist residency programme. The regional awards ceremony will be held in Singapore in November this year. The top winner in Vietnam in the Emerging and Established categories will be exhibited at the National Gallery Singapore.
On the sidelines of the competition, UOB also facilitates and accompanies Vietnamese artists to participate in regional art competitions, such as Art Jakarta held in Indonesia, or Art Central held in Hong Kong (China), which gathers many artistic talents across Asia.
On this occasion, UOB Vietnam Bank organized an exhibition of 6 winning works in the two categories of Established Artist and Promising Artist, along with 5 finalists of the second UOB Painting of the Year (2024) at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi ), from May 7 to 19.
