A residential area flourishes

Not relying on the State's support, consensus, overcoming difficulties, building a prosperous life. That is our impression of Hong Coc residential group, Phuc Thuan ward. Ethnic minorities have overcome poverty, and have been removed from the list of particularly difficult areas of the country.

Sharing with us, Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Head of the Hong Coc Neighborhood Front, said: The neighborhood has 73 households, 300 people, 86% of whom are ethnic minorities. In recent years, people's lives have improved a lot, in 2025 the average income will reach 50 million VND/person/year, an increase of 13 million VND compared to 2019.

The people of Hong Coc residential group have changed the appearance of their hometown with their own efforts. Traffic is concreted to the alleys, many production routes have been built to facilitate seasonal work. Fields, new rice and corn varieties with high productivity are planted en masse; hills, fields and mixed gardens are converted to grow tea and fruit trees.

Talking to us, Ms. Le Thi Uyen said: My family has 6 sao of land to grow tea, on average we harvest 600 kg of fresh tea/batch, with 7 batches we harvest 4.2 tons of fresh tea buds. In addition to my family's tea, I also buy about 200 kg of fresh tea/day from people in the area to process and sell to tea agents in and outside the province.

Mrs. Lieu Thi Ba said: My family has 4 sao of tea land and 6 sao of land for growing rice twice a year. Thanks to participating in training courses on science and technology transfer organized by the local authorities, I have applied them to production, so the tea is good and the rice has plump grains.

Many people in the group jokingly said: Hong Coc moved to the city but still relied on rice, tea and small-scale livestock farming in the family. Most households in the group had land to grow rice and tea, but many households boldly invested capital in livestock farming, increasing their income.

Typically, Mr. Lam Van Hung's family maintains raising more than 100 sows and pigs per litter; Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat's family maintains a total herd of more than 500 sows and pigs; Mrs. Vu Thi Hong Hanh's family maintains raising geese on a scale of 1,500 geese per litter...

Some households boldly opened businesses such as Mr. Lam Van Phu and Mr. Lam Van Luong. In the group, there are many young workers who left the countryside to work as factory workers in industrial zones and to work abroad for a limited period of time.

At the tea plantation of Mrs. Phu Thi Ha's family, we met a group of women who came to help each other harvest in exchange for work. Everyone was excited and chatting happily as if they were going to a festival.

Ms. Ha said: My family's 8 sao of hybrid tea is cared for according to VietGAP process, 7 harvests a year, after processing we get 30kg of dry tea/sao/batch. Traders come to my house to buy at 300,000 VND/kg. Not counting rice, corn, and livestock, my family's income from tea alone is more than 500 million VND/year.

From a particularly difficult hamlet in region 135 of the country, Hong Coc has now changed completely. Many households have built houses with modern designs, with televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners.

Ms. Chu Thi Ly said: In the past, it was difficult to travel on the village road by bicycle, but now cars and motorbikes can go in and out. Hong Coc residential group has gone through a long process of "transformation". For example, the main concrete road of the village, after many times of propaganda and mobilization, households on both sides of the road voluntarily demolished the fence, property on the land and moved back 50cm, the total amount of land donated was nearly 1,000m2.

In a joyful atmosphere, people shared their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in economic development, preserving family happiness, and at the same time encouraged each other to comply with the conventions and village rules of the residential group. Accordingly, backward customs and practices such as big funerals, big weddings, and the custom of "paying off debts with words" were eliminated. People actively registered to participate in building cultural families. As a result, in 2025, through evaluation, 70 households in the group met the criteria, accounting for 96%...
