Nam Thanh suffered nearly 6 billion VND in damage due to storms and rains.

Prolonged rain and storms have seriously affected many areas in Nam Thanh commune (Lam Dong), causing estimated damage of nearly 6 billion VND.

From November 3 to 8, due to the large amount of water flowing from upstream, combined with the increased discharge flow of Ham Thuan Lake, flooding occurred on La Nga River.

Along with that, the impact of storm No. 13 (KALMAEG) also caused prolonged rain over a large area. Floodwaters from La Nga River flowed back into low-lying areas and coastal areas, causing localized flooding in some fields in the commune. Some places were flooded 1-2m deep. The water level is currently continuing to rise.

Many areas in Nam Thanh commune were affected. Of which, about 400 hectares of rice from 25 days old to about to be harvested in the locality were severely affected. The total damage was estimated at nearly 6 billion VND.

Chairman of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee Doan Cong Hoa, Head of the Commune Civil Defense Command, and related sectors directly went to the scene, flooded areas, areas at risk of being cut off and isolated, areas along La Nga River and streams to closely monitor the situation and give instructions.

He encouraged and visited the people and directed the immediate implementation of disaster prevention and control work; assigned 24/7 duty, promptly monitored the development of natural disasters and advised on response directions.

Nam Thanh Commune has deployed measures and solutions to prevent flooding, propagated and mobilized households to harvest crops, plants, and livestock to escape floods, dredged drainage ditches in residential areas, and intra-field canals to prevent flooding.

The locality has deployed water regulation teams in the area to regularly inspect internal irrigation works, coordinate with the Pumping Station and Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, La Nga Branch to handle dredging of the drainage system clogged by accumulated garbage; promptly pull the sluices to clear the flow and drain the flood, prevent flooding.

Currently, local authorities continue to monitor the rain, flood and inundation situation to have a detailed and specific damage assessment, as a basis for supporting the people.
