On the afternoon of July 24th, at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's regular quarterly press conference, a representative from the Department of Performing Arts affirmed the view that artists, even celebrities, are still citizens, and all violations of the law must be dealt with strictly, without exception or "forbidden zones."
Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Tran Huong Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts, emphasized that artists have a great influence on the public. Having chosen the path of artistic activity, it means they need to abide by ethical and legal standards like any other citizen.
Regarding penalties for celebrities engaging in excessive online advertising, the Director of the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Information has worked with and strictly handled cases of violations such as MC Quang Minh, Van Hugo, and Hoang Linh. As for artists Quyen Linh and Doan Quoc Dam, although they have been summoned for questioning twice, the violations were determined to be minor, and the related advertising contracts had ended two years prior.
Representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also stated that the procedure for restricting images of celebrities that violate the law was issued in October 2024, but due to various objective reasons, it has not yet been implemented in practice.
Regarding the handling of fake accounts on social media for fraudulent purposes, the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information added that in the first six months of the year alone, the three major social media platforms – Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok – removed 30,000 accounts. In addition, to raise public awareness, authorities have coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to send SMS warnings about online scams and have requested media involvement to support the communication efforts.
