Against the backdrop of the Vietnam-Algeria relationship being upgraded to a Strategic Partnership during the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , and in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of General Vo Nguyen Giap's visit and historic speech in Algeria (January 1976), from December 9-14, the International Friends of the Algerian Revolution Association and Mr. Vo Hong Nam, son of General Vo Nguyen Giap and a member of the Association's Executive Committee, held many meaningful activities in Algiers.

These activities aim to express gratitude and acknowledge the revolutionary solidarity between Vietnam and Algeria, while also spreading humanitarian values and contributing to strengthening friendship and promoting people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.

During a meeting with the President of the International Friends of the Algerian Revolution, veteran diplomat and former Algerian Ambassador Noureddine Djoudi, the two sides recalled historical moments in the national liberation struggles of their respective countries.

The two sides also discussed solutions to "ignite the flame," raise awareness, and foster revolutionary spirit among the younger generations of Vietnam and Algeria in the new context.

During the meeting with Mr. Vo Hong Nam, Algerian Minister of Veterans and War Veterans Abdelmalek Tacherift expressed his deep admiration for General Vo Nguyen Giap's immense contributions to the national liberation movement worldwide.

He affirmed that Vietnam is a prime example not only in the struggle for independence, but also in the process of national construction and development, and expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play an even more active role in promoting global peace and progress.

Mr. Tacherift said that he first met General Vo Nguyen Giap when he was a student, attending a talk given by the General at the Algiers Stadium.

He was particularly impressed by the General's insightful comparison when he likened the imperialist and colonial powers to "poor students who keep failing but still fail to learn the lessons of history."

For his part, Mr. Vo Hong Nam expressed his emotion at the sincere and profound feelings that Minister Tacherift had for the Vietnamese people and for General Vo Nguyen Giap personally; and at the same time proposed many forms of cooperation with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs to propagate and educate young people in order to further spread the rare traditional sentiments of the two countries' people over the past 70 years, especially in the context of the two countries having elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership.

Also on this occasion, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian People's Army, General Saïd Chengriha, sent a letter of appreciation to the family of General Võ Nguyên Giáp. In the letter, he expressed his respect for the General's book "Điện Biên Phủ," the Arabic version of which was first introduced at the Moujahid National Museum during Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính's visit.

General Saïd Chengriha highlighted the immense contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap to the Algerian revolution and people, the national liberation movement in Africa, as well as the development of friendly relations between Vietnam and Algeria; expressing confidence in the prospects for further promoting bilateral agreements within the framework of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Speaking with a VNA reporter in Algiers, Mr. Vo Hong Nam said that the Algerian people are very hospitable and have a special affection for President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, and the national liberation struggle of the Vietnamese people.

During his visit to the Moujahid National Museum on December 11th—a day of special significance for the Algerian revolutionary movement—Mr. Nam was moved to see the painting of General Vo Nguyen Giap meeting President Houari Boumediene—a gift from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the museum—displayed in a prominent position, reflecting the deep respect not only for the General personally, but also for the traditional friendship between the two nations.

Here, the delegation also had the opportunity to meet and exchange views with Algerian veterans. The veterans expressed their deep respect for the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the role of General Vo Nguyen Giap, affirming that this historical event had a profound impact on colonial countries and national liberation movements worldwide.

Many people recall that since 1958, Algerian revolutionary fighters had come to Vietnam to learn about people's war, contributing to the victory of the struggle for independence, which led to the North African country becoming an independent nation in 1962.
