Prices of goods did not increase.
Increased consumer purchasing power has led to a surge in commercial activity at Tam Ky market. Ms. Huynh Thi Dao, a vendor selling shoes and hats, said that typically, people buy shoes and hats for their children in August to prepare for the new school year. This year, by the end of July, hats and shoes were already selling quite well.
At Tam Ky Commercial Market, Ms. Trang Van Thanh (An My neighborhood, Tam Ky) bought many consumer goods. Ms. Thanh said that the prices of pork, seafood, beef, vegetables, sugar, milk, spices, clothes, and fashion items have not increased since before July. Pork belly costs around 150,000 VND/kg, beef 250,000 VND/kg, squid 250,000 VND/kg, and whiteleg shrimp 200,000 VND/kg.
Overall, the goods are fresh and of good quality, and the fruits and vegetables meet food safety standards. Small traders are making efforts to attract customers rather than raising prices, which would only discourage consumers.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the total retail sales of goods and services in Quang Nam province in July were estimated at nearly 6,500 billion VND (a 3.3% increase compared to the previous month and a 12.6% increase compared to the same period last year). Of this, retail sales of goods in July were estimated at nearly 4,500 billion VND. For the first seven months of the year, total commercial activity revenue was estimated at 98,500 billion VND (a 14.9% increase compared to the same period last year). Retail sales for the past seven months were estimated at 30,300 billion VND (a 9.5% increase compared to the same period last year).
In Hoi An City, Ms. Tang Thi Thanh Thuy is a wholesale distributor of various consumer goods (cups, bowls, chopsticks, basins, tables, chairs, glasses, plastic baskets, blankets, pillows, water filters, etc.) in the area and neighboring localities. Ms. Thuy said she is very happy that the economy is recovering and purchasing power in markets and shopping centers is vibrant.
To boost customer demand, the distributor waived shipping fees both within and outside Hoi An. Furthermore, discounts were more than a quarter higher than in previous months.
"Some goods at the markets that aren't selling well, are old, or are returned by vendors, I also take them back. To support consumer spending, whenever there's a promotion, I actively implement it for customers right away," said Ms. Thuy.
Stabilize the market
According to Mr. Le Vu Thuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, continuing the growth trend from the beginning of the year, trade activities in July were bustling, recording stable growth, with no sudden price increases for any goods.

Many supermarkets and retail stores organize attractive promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand. During the summer break, the demand for textbooks, clothing, and school uniforms in preparation for the new school year also contributes to the overall growth of commercial revenue.
According to Mr. Le Vu Thuong, commercial activities in the province have seen many positive developments, growing in terms of quantity, scale, and quality of services.
In addition, the widespread distribution of wholesale and retail stores, covering rural and mountainous areas, facilitates the trade of goods and contributes to stimulating production and consumption.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to closely monitor the supply and demand and market prices of essential goods in order to promptly implement solutions to stabilize the market, especially for certain essential items that serve the daily lives of the people.
According to Mr. Le Can, Deputy Director of the Quang Nam Market Management Department, since the beginning of July, there has been no price increase for essential goods and consumer products in the province. In the coming period, the unit will strictly control the circulation of goods in the market; coordinate with the industry and trade sector to regulate and ensure supply and stabilize the market.
"The important task of the Quang Nam Market Management Department is to monitor the implementation of price declaration, price listing, and price information disclosure measures at supermarkets, shopping malls, and wholesale markets. We strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate regulations, taking advantage of peak periods to unreasonably and illegally increase prices," Mr. Can emphasized.
