Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho sent his warm regards and New Year wishes to the monks, superior monks, officials, soldiers and Khmer people in the province.
Comrade Le Trung Ho said that Kien Giang is the province with the third largest Khmer population in the Mekong Delta region with over 237,100 people, accounting for over 13% of the province's population. During the resistance war against foreign invaders as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, the Khmer people always had a patriotic spirit, promoted revolutionary traditions, believed in the leadership of the Party, and united with other ethnic groups in the area.
Khmer people have made many efforts to overcome difficulties, strive to improve their lives, and actively join the entire Party, people and army in the province to well perform the tasks of socio-economic development, maintaining political security and social order and safety in the locality.

According to Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho, ethnic affairs and policies for ethnic minorities continue to be focused on and achieved comprehensive results in all areas. The material and spiritual life of Khmer people is increasingly improved; the number of well-off households is increasing, poor ethnic minority households have decreased to 1.86%, near-poor households have decreased to 2.73%, of which poor Khmer households are only 1.8%.
Up to now, the whole province has 116/116 communes meeting new rural standards, 40 communes have been recognized as meeting advanced new rural standards; 5 communes have been recognized as model communes and 7 districts and cities have met new rural standards. National cultural identity is preserved and promoted; the political system in ethnic minority and border areas is increasingly strong; political security and social order and safety continue to be stable.
The province pays attention to training cadres who are Khmer people; the work of developing party members, building core forces and prestigious people among ethnic minorities is focused on.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions presented gifts to 4 organizations (VND 10 million/gift); 50 gifts (VND 500,000/gift) to prestigious people; 50 gifts (VND 1 million/gift) to poor Khmer households in the province.
Kien Giang provincial leaders presented 200 gifts to leaders, retired officials, dignitaries, prestigious people, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and Khmer families with meritorious services in the province, with a total value of 40 million VND.
