According to initial information, most of the patients came to Phu Quoc from the mainland and were renting rooms in Cua Duong and Bai Thom communes. The patients said that they may have been poisoned by eating chicken egg mushrooms.

Among the hospitalized patients, 3 showed signs of serious illness and were transferred to Kien Giang Provincial General Hospital for further treatment. Most of the remaining patients are continuing treatment at Phu Quoc City Medical Center.
