The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor assigned grassroots trade unions to proactively work with business owners to publicly announce plans to pay salaries and bonuses for Lunar New Year 20 days before the holiday.
In the 2024 Tet care plan, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor assigned grassroots trade unions to supervise the payment of Tet salary and bonus regimes as well as reasonable working time, rest, and overtime for employees.
This year's Lunar New Year holiday lasts from December 29, Quy Mao, to January 5, Giap Thin (February 8-14, 2024). Thus, the union recommends that businesses publicly announce their Tet bonus plans no later than January 19, 2024.

Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said that Tet bonuses are not a mandatory provision in the Labor Code, but the social responsibility of enterprises "sometimes has the same value as legal regulations".
"For workers, no matter how difficult it is, they still look forward to the Tet bonus. Because in addition to its material value, this amount also greatly encourages their spirit," he said, adding that businesses with high social responsibility always consider this a way to retain workers and increase productivity. Through information from the grassroots, many businesses are ready to implement the recommendations and soon publicize the Tet bonus plan so that workers can work with peace of mind.
However, the union also forecasts that from now until early 2024, the socio -economic situation will face many challenges, affecting workers' wages and incomes. Therefore, according to Mr. Hieu, if expectations are not met, workers need to share the difficulties with businesses, because the goal of labor relations is harmony and progress.

The General Confederation assigned the grassroots level to classify the level of difficulties of enterprises to choose the appropriate form of negotiation, ensuring the rights of workers. Union officials closely followed the lives of workers to prevent disputes, stop collective work arising during Tet, and encouraged workers to return to work after the holiday so that enterprises could resume normal production.
For workers in difficulty, the union allocates a support fund of 500,000 VND per person, the number of which does not exceed 10% of the union members of the management unit. In places where socialized resources are mobilized, the amount and amount of support may be higher than the regulations. Workers far from home and in difficulty are supported with free air and train tickets to return home for Tet.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2023, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs counted 54,000 enterprises with 4.38 million employees, showing that the average bonus increased by 11% compared to the previous year, about 6.86 million VND. State-owned enterprises gave a bonus of 6.5 million VND/person (up 15%); private enterprises about 6.6 million VND (up 10%) and FDI enterprises were 7.2 million VND. The highest bonus was over one billion and the lowest was 50,000 VND.
