The second year held in Thai Binh , the reading culture ambassador contest has created a vibrant movement, attracting students from 60 schools at all levels in the province to participate. The schools mobilized the participation and support of parents, contributing to creating many quality, elaborate contests, expressing the love for reading and the desire to spread reading culture among students.

Knowledge Buses

In just 2 months of launching, the contest attracted more than 15,000 entries, showing the proactive spirit of students at all levels in reading and acquiring knowledge from books. A significant contribution to this is the journey of multimedia library buses. In the first 6 months of 2023, multimedia library cars served readers at 45 schools and reading points in districts and cities with 25,666 students participating. In addition to the activity of bringing books to schools, helping students access useful, newly published books, on each journey, librarians actively guide students on how to read books effectively, exploit information from books and organize competitions for students related to reading such as answering questions, sharing feelings about the books they have read... Thousands of books have been given to students at schools, remote locations in Thai Thuy, Quynh Phu as well as supporting the development of some private reading spaces that are still facing many difficulties. Every journey brings many surprises and excitement to students, thereby encouraging them to spend more time reading as well as practicing thinking and analytical skills to make reading more effective.

As one of the destinations of the multimedia library car in the 2022-2023 school year, An Dong Primary School (Quynh Phu) has made efforts to build a movement, multiplying the love of reading in students. Teacher Bui Huy Hung shared: In just over 1 month since the school launched the reading culture ambassador contest in 2023, more than 300 entries were sent in, and teachers selected the best quality entries to send. What is impressive is that the students not only introduced their favorite books but also had entries that showed their creativity when they chose to compose poems and short stories according to the topics given by the organizers. Some good quality entries were read by teachers in front of the whole school during the first meeting of the week, thereby encouraging other students to make more efforts in reading and creating. From the efforts of teachers and students, An Dong Primary School won 5 individual prizes, including 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize and 2 thematic prizes.

Sharing about the success of the contest in its second year, Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Director of the Provincial Library, said: The Department of Education and Training of districts and cities has actively implemented the contest at the grassroots level, organized the preliminary round well, and selected the best entries to participate in the provincial contest. In particular, the unit with the most contestants is An Bai Primary School (Quynh Phu); the unit with the most first prize winners is the Department of Education and Training of Quynh Phu district; the units that organized the preliminary round of the contest well are the Department of Education and Training of Thai Thuy district, the Department of Education and Training of Kien Xuong district. This shows that units and educational institutions have become more aware of the importance of books and newspapers in forming reading habits and skills for the young generation, contributing to the development of reading culture in schools and communities.

As one of the four second prize winners of the contest, Vu Minh Anh, class 11 English 1, Thai Binh High School for the Gifted, said: As soon as I and my friends in the school attended the contest launching ceremony, the teachers encouraged us to form a reading club to spread the habit of reading more often. I find this a very meaningful contest for each student to raise awareness, spend more time reading as well as think seriously about ways for myself and everyone to gradually change the habit of being less dependent on electronic devices. In my entry, I chose to introduce the novel "Dat rung phuong Nam" by writer Doan Gioi. I hope that students will pay more attention to reading and feeling famous literary works, thereby increasingly cultivating in themselves love, pride and the desire to contribute more to their homeland and country.

“A single swallow does not make a spring”, on the journey to conquer knowledge, cultural ambassadors of reading are working with teachers every day with practical actions hoping to contribute to spreading reading culture in the community. There is a famous saying: “The moment we convince a child, any child, to step over that threshold, the magical threshold leading to the library, we change their lives forever, for the better”. The new school year has begun, hopefully with the participation of all levels and sectors, every student, no matter where they are, will always be encouraged to read books regularly, from which they can find for themselves a close friend: useful books.
