Dang Huy Tru (1825 - 1874), alias Hoang Trung, alias Vong Tan, Tinh Trai, was from Thanh Luong village, Huong Xuan commune, now Huong Xuan ward, Huong Tra town, Hue city. He was a patriotic Confucian scholar in the resistance war against French colonialism in the 19th century, a high-ranking official of the Nguyen dynasty with reformist ideology, his whole life was a shining example for the people and the country, and at the same time he was a writer, poet, politician , economist, military man, and diplomat. He is also considered the founder of Vietnamese photography.
A life of only 49 years, but with talent and enthusiasm, Dang Huy Tru left behind many legacies for life, according to historian Le Van Lan: "The career that Dang Huy Tru left behind compared to contemporary Confucian scholars, is not only outstanding but also superior".
On this occasion, an exhibition with the theme "Dang Huy Tru - Life and Career" was also held at the Dang Huy Tru church. The exhibition displayed nearly 50 images and documents about the life and great contributions of Dang Huy Tru in the fields of culture, education, economy, military , literature and the work of promoting the value of Dang Huy Tru historical relics in the present period.
The celebration program also includes an activity to learn about the history and culture of the “Homeland Cultural Heritage” for students, held right at the Dang Huy Tru Church relic site. The activity to learn about cultural heritage helps students understand more about history, improve propaganda work,educate patriotic traditions, arouse pride, the spirit of learning and following examples for generations.
Through the above meaningful activities, students can raise their awareness of heritage protection, proactively learn, and contribute to creating positive changes in awareness and behavior towards traditional cultural and historical values for students - the future owners of their homeland and country.
