At this Asian Individual Championship, with an elo of 2,423, International Master Dau Khuong Duy has the opportunity to compete with many Grandmasters from India, Iran, Uzbekistan, China... In front of the continental elite, the young Vietnamese chess talent promises to create surprises as he has defeated many strong opponents in previous international tournaments. Currently, Dau Khuong Duy has 1 Grandmaster standard and aims to find 2 more standards to soon join the group of Grandmasters.
With his talent and passion for chess, and the support of his family, Dau Khuong Duy has continuously achieved success in youth tournaments. The most impressive achievement of the number 1 chess talent in Hanoi is the gold medal in the U.12 standard chess category at the 2023 World Youth Chess Championship. Thereby, he "stands shoulder to shoulder" with his seniors who have stepped onto the highest podium at the world youth tournament, including Dao Thien Hai, Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Nguyen Anh Khoi, Tran Minh Thang, Nguyen Thi Dung, Nguyen Le Cam Hien. According to the coaches, Dau Khuong Duy is making steady progress. At only 14 years old, Khuong Duy has confidently competed in age-group tournaments such as the U.20 World Championship, open tournaments and competed with a chess strength that is considered equivalent to that of Grandmasters.
Mr. Dau Anh Bac (father of chess player Dau Khuong Duy) shared: "At the present time, Dau Khuong Duy needs to compete in open tournaments with many different strong opponents to improve his level. In addition to the tournaments sent by the Vietnam Chess Federation and the Vietnam Sports Department, the family also takes care of the expenses for him to participate in international open tournaments. This year, the family has planned for Duy to compete in 2 to 3 international tournaments in Europe."
Currently, Dau Khuong Duy is receiving professional support from two coaches, Luong Trong Minh and Nguyen Van Huy. However, to improve his chess skills, this player needs to have a foreign coach with good expertise to train him. Previously, Vietnam's number 1 chess player Le Quang Liem also spent time studying with foreign coaches at a considerable cost. Dau Khuong Duy is considered the leading young talent of Vietnamese chess today, possessing many factors to reach the top. If well cared for and invested in, Duy promises to follow in the footsteps of his senior Le Quang Liem to conquer the world chess village.
