People on both banks look forward to the day they can cross the river on bridges that connect many aspirations.
boat crash
Bridges like An Thai or May bridge are still playing a good role in connecting the two banks of Kinh Mon river, contributing significantly to the development of trade and travel of the people. However, with the river stretching through many communes and wards, not everyone has their departure and destination near these bridges. Therefore, ferry is still a familiar means of crossing the river, even the most optimal for many people.
The Bai Mac and Phu ferries still regularly take students to class, workers to shift, farmers to sell goods across the river... Amidst the daily changes of life, the image of the small ferry still persistently connects the activities on both banks of the Kinh Mon River.
Every morning, teacher Do Van Phong, a teacher at Quang Thanh High School (Nam An Phu Commune), goes down to Phu ferry to cross Kinh Mon River. His house in Phu Thai Commune is less than 5 km away from the school as the crow flies, but because of the river separating him, he still has to cross the river every day to go to school. In the dry season, it is difficult to wait for the ferry, in the rainy season, the water level is high, making the trip across the river even more worrying.

“There were days when the water was high and the ferry stopped running, so I had to circle nearly 20 kilometers to get to school. I really wish there was a bridge connecting the two banks…”, Mr. Phong shared. Therefore, when he heard the news of the Kinh Mon River bridge being built, Mr. Phong was very happy.
Like Mr. Phong, Mr. Tran Van Hai in Kim Thanh commune works as a computer repairman. Most of his customers are in Nam An Phu and Tran Lieu communes, so he has to go back and forth between the two banks almost every day.
“Many days when I was transporting heavy components and came across a ferry stopping at noon, I had to wait for hours. I just hope that the bridge will soon be built to make travel easier, so that customers can come over as soon as they call,” Hai shared.

Not only Mr. Phong and Mr. Hai, but thousands of people on both sides of Kinh Mon River share the same wish: no more boating in the rain and wind, no more worries about "boating" in the middle of the big water. And that wish is about to come true...
New bridges
The Kinh Mon River overpass project has a total investment of about 600 billion VND, including a main bridge over 568 m long connecting the two banks of the Kinh Mon River, directly connecting to the National Highway 5 interchange. According to the plan, the project will be completed by the end of 2026, opening a modern traffic route, significantly shortening travel time, promoting socio -economic development in the region.
Hai Phong City is also implementing the Van Bridge project - a bridge and road connecting National Highway 37 with the approach road to Trieu Bridge. Van Bridge is nearly 900 m long, 12 m wide, with a total investment of more than 1,296 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2027. When put into use, the project will open up new development space, forming a vital traffic axis connecting northern industrial parks and riverside satellite cities.
Bridges are not only for transportation purposes, they are also the bridges connecting many dreams, livelihoods and emotions. On one side are residential areas, schools, traditional markets; on the other side are industrial zones, factories, service establishments. When the bridges are built, workers, students, teachers, the flow of goods... will circulate more conveniently than ever. Businessmen and traders will no longer have to wait for the ferry when they come home late, and students will be able to get to school safely and on time.
Many people on both sides of Kinh Mon River told each other that when Phu Thai Bridge and May Bridge were built, everyone was very happy. Now that there will be more bridges across the river, the joy is indescribable. The bridges are not only roads across the river, but also symbols of change, bridges connecting many livelihoods, dreams and feelings.

At Bai Mac ferry, the sound of engines still resounds regularly every morning, but in the eyes of ferrymen, market-goers, teachers, students… there is a flicker of anticipation, because the joy of having new bridges connecting the two banks of Kinh Mon river is gradually becoming a reality.
