Lai Chau meets to celebrate 80 years of industry tradition

On the afternoon of November 14, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau province solemnly held a meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Agriculture and Environment sector (November 14, 1945 - November 14, 2025).

At the meeting, Mr. Bui Huy Phuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau province, reviewed the 80-year journey of establishment and growth of the industry; expressed gratitude to generations of cadres who have contributed to the cause of agricultural and rural development and environmental protection.

"Whether in war or peace , the staff of Lai Chau Agriculture and Environment sector are always united, creative, close to the people, making important contributions to the socio-economic development of the province," Mr. Phuong affirmed.

In recent years, Lai Chau's Agriculture and Environment sector has achieved many outstanding results. By the end of 2024, the value of agricultural production will be about 6,400 billion VND; food output will be 226,100 tons; concentrated production areas will be formed with 7,400 hectares of macadamia, 10,500 hectares of tea, 12,500 hectares of cinnamon, 11,000 hectares of medicinal plants; total livestock herd will be nearly 372,000. Forest cover rate will reach 52.95%; payment for forest environmental services will bring about 500 billion VND/year.

The year 2025 marks the merger of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment into the Department of Agriculture and Environment. Although newly established, the Department has successfully completed its tasks such as: food output of more than 124,000 tons; forest area of ​​506,000 hectares; 226 3-4 star OCOP products; 92.2% of the rural population using clean water; 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses are eliminated; the collection rate of hazardous waste and solid waste is high.

Promoting the glorious tradition, in the coming time, the Agriculture and Environment sector will focus on developing sustainable agriculture, organic agriculture, high technology; expanding key production areas; improving land, water and mineral management; developing the carbon credit market; promoting digital transformation. In the period of 2026-2030, the sector will continue to advise on implementing the new rural construction program towards improving the quality of life and narrowing the gap between regions.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ha Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee acknowledged, praised and congratulated the contributions of generations of officials in the Agriculture and Environment sector over the past time. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that in the coming time, the sector continue to unite and focus on intelligence to create a comprehensive strength and quality of work in advisory management and implementation organization.

Be more proactive in advising and formulating policies, concretizing the goals set forth by the 15th Provincial Party Congress, which is to develop commodity agriculture and medicinal herbs in the direction of green development associated with resolutions and topics on commodity agricultural products, forest development, new rural construction, population relocation out of disaster areas, applying digital transformation in construction, land and environmental data management for socio-economic development.

Continue to streamline the organization, improve the quality, implement the effectiveness of the organization, the ethics of the staff in performing public duties, stay close to the people, and share with economic organizations. Proactively coordinate with sectors and localities to develop policies, remove difficulties and obstacles, and gradually improve the position of the sector in society and the political system.

It is recommended that all levels, sectors, organizations and individuals always accompany and support the Department of Agriculture and Environment to successfully complete its assigned tasks. Thereby, gradually successfully implementing the province's agricultural and rural development goals with the motto "Ecological agriculture, modern countryside, civilized farmers", contributing to Lai Chau's rapid, green and sustainable development.

On this occasion, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment awarded Certificates of Merit to 1 collective and 2 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing patriotic emulation movements in the period of 2021-2025; the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 collectives and 20 individuals; the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment awarded Certificates of Merit to 7 collectives and 72 individuals with outstanding achievements in the Emulation Movement to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Agriculture and Environment sector (November 14, 1945 - November 14, 2025).
