Lai Chau holds a meeting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the industry's traditional day.

On the afternoon of November 14th, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau province solemnly organized a meeting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Agriculture and Environment sector (November 14, 1945 - November 14, 2025).

At the meeting, Mr. Bui Huy Phuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau province, reviewed the 80-year journey of development and growth of the sector; and expressed gratitude to the generations of officials who have contributed to the development of agriculture, rural areas, and environmental protection.

"Whether in times of war or peace , the staff of the Agriculture and Environment sector in Lai Chau have always been united, creative, and closely connected with the people, making important contributions to the socio-economic development of the province," Mr. Phuong affirmed.

In recent years, Lai Chau's Agriculture and Environment sector has achieved many outstanding results. By the end of 2024, the value of agricultural production reached approximately 6,400 billion VND; food production reached 226,100 tons; concentrated production areas were established with 7,400 hectares of macadamia nuts, 10,500 hectares of tea, 12,500 hectares of cinnamon, and 11,000 hectares of medicinal plants; the total livestock population was nearly 372,000 head. The forest cover rate reached 52.95%; payments for forest environmental services generated approximately 500 billion VND per year.

The year 2025 marked the merger of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to form the Department of Agriculture and Environment. Despite being newly restructured, the Department has successfully completed its tasks, including: a food production output of over 124,000 tons; a forest area of ​​506,000 hectares; 226 OCOP products with 3-4 stars; 92.2% of the rural population using clean water; 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses eliminated; and a high rate of hazardous and solid waste collection.

Building on its glorious traditions, the Agriculture and Environment sector will focus on developing sustainable agriculture, organic agriculture, and high-tech agriculture in the coming period; expanding key production areas; improving land, water, and mineral resource management; developing a carbon credit market; and promoting digital transformation. During the 2026-2030 period, the sector will continue to advise on and implement the new rural development program, aiming to improve the quality of life and narrow the gap between regions.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ha Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged, praised, and congratulated the contributions of generations of officials in the Agriculture and Environment sector over the years. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that, in the coming time, the sector continue to unite, focus its intellect to create a combined strength, and improve the quality of its work in management, consultation, and implementation.

To be more proactive in advising and formulating policies, and to concretize the goals set forth by the 15th Provincial Party Congress, which include developing commercial agriculture and medicinal plants in a green direction, linked with resolutions and thematic studies on commercial agricultural products, forest development, building new rural areas, relocating people away from disaster-prone areas, and applying digital transformation in the construction and management of land and environmental data for socio-economic development.

Continue to streamline the organization, improve the quality and efficiency of its operations, and enhance the professional ethics of its staff in performing their duties, staying close to the people, and collaborating with economic organizations. Proactively coordinate with various sectors and localities to develop policies, resolve difficulties and obstacles, and gradually improve the sector's standing in society and the political system.

We urge all levels, sectors, organizations, and individuals to continuously support and create favorable conditions for the Agriculture and Environment sector to successfully fulfill its assigned tasks. Through this, we will gradually achieve the goals of agricultural and rural development in the province with the motto "Ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, civilized farmers," contributing to the rapid, green, and sustainable development of Lai Chau.

On this occasion, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment awarded Certificates of Merit to one collective and two individuals for their outstanding achievements in implementing patriotic emulation movements during the 2021-2025 period; the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to two collectives and 20 individuals; and the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment awarded Certificates of Commendation to seven collectives and 72 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Agriculture and Environment sector (November 14, 1945 - November 14, 2025).
