Lam Thuong commune was established on the basis of merging 4 communes: Khanh Thien, Mai Son, Lam Thuong and Tan Phuong; natural area of over 128 km², with 31 villages; population of over 19,500 people, including 18 ethnic groups living together.
Immediately after the merger, Lam Thuong Commune Women's Union developed a communication plan and became one of the localities actively implementing a communication campaign to promote gender equality when implementing a two-level local government.

The community communication session in Khe Phao and Khe Bin villages in early September attracted 140 members, women and people in the two villages to participate. The Commune Women's Union and community communication teams integrated the message "eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes - expanding equal opportunities for women to develop, fostering happy families, building a civilized and sustainable society" into the communication content with a rich form, suitable to local customs and practices.
Ms. Tran Thi Suu, Deputy Head of the Khe Phao Community Communication Team, said: The village has 109 members, women, mainly Dao ethnic people living, the economy is mostly based on agriculture and forestry. The Khe Phao Community Communication Team consists of 7 members, including the Party cell secretary, village chief, front committee, prestigious people, women members... have actively carried out propaganda work to eliminate gender prejudice.
Thanks to that, backward customs and gender discrimination have been eliminated. Most typically, in the past, when Dao women in the village got married, they were not allowed to sit at the same table with their father-in-law, or if they sat at the same table, they had to squat, but now this custom has been completely abandoned.

Implementing Project 8 on "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children", in 2025, Lam Thuong Commune Women's Union established 12 community communication teams in 12 villages, including: Lung Co, Bo Mi, Khe Phao, Khe Bin, Khieng Khun, Na Lay, Nam Chan, Tham Pat, Hin Lan, Na Ken - Nam Tro, Tong Mo, Na Luong.
To date, the Commune Women's Union has launched a gender equality communication campaign in 5 villages, including Lung Co, Bo Mi, Khe Phao, Khe Bin, Khieng Khun, with 320 participants. It is expected to complete gender equality communication in all villages before September 15, with about 1,000 participants.
With rich media content, such as: propaganda about the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on Marriage and Family, prevention of child marriage and incestuous marriage, spreading good economic models, happy family examples... has contributed to changing people's awareness of gender, thereby actively building happy and prosperous families, contributing to building a civilized and developed Lam Thuong.

Ms. Trieu Thi Thien, President of the Women's Union of Lam Thuong commune, shared: At first, we were also worried because people were afraid to approach new knowledge and were hesitant about sensitive issues such as marriage, gender, and domestic violence.
Thanks to training in skills and methods of propaganda appropriate to the customs and practices of ethnic minorities, communication sessions are increasingly exciting. People not only listen but also participate in discussions and share very openly.
Implementing Project 8 in Lam Thuong, prejudices have gradually been removed, the voices of women and children have been heard, backward customs have been eliminated, the gender gap has narrowed, domestic violence has gradually ended, men have proactively shared and helped their wives with housework. Children, especially girls, have been cared for and attended school regularly.

The initial results of Project 8 in Lam Thuong are not only numbers but also changes in thinking and behavior. People have begun to be more aware of the rights of women and children, the need for education , and shared responsibilities in the family. The activities of community media groups now not only have a positive impact on the thinking and actions of women, but men have also changed and become more progressive.
