The male singer said that when he first started his singing career, he had to hide it from his family. His father did not want him to participate in the arts because he was worried that his son would enter an unstable environment.

However, later on, his father still supported Lam Truong when he decided to seriously pursue this career.

"My family has 11 siblings, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. All 10 people love and support my singing career. Only my father is difficult and doesn't want me to pursue a singing career.

My whole family supported me so I could sing. To this day, I think 70% of my success is thanks to my family."

Once sang without pay, and was kicked off the stage.

However, Lam Truong's path was not really smooth. In the early stages of his singing career, he even accepted to sing for free at wedding restaurant stages but was still... fired.

"When I first started singing, the singers before me didn't have much salary. I didn't even have a salary. There was no way to change that situation except to appear on a very famous video like "Dust Rain" or to sing on TV, on big stages...

But to reach that market was extremely difficult. At that time, there was another problem, which was that singing did not make much money and people chased me away.

At that time, I knew musician Nguyen Duc Chung. He told me to sing at that stage to practice singing. Usually, the main singers of the program would sing first, I would wait until the stage was empty to sing.

Coincidentally, that day the restaurant manager went to survey and saw it. She called Chung out and said: "Let him quit, I don't want him to sing at my restaurant, he's too childish", the singer of "Love is so sad" recalled.

Lam Truong said that he couldn't help but feel hurt when he heard these words. But because he loved singing so much, and there was no chance for him to have a whole band play for him to sing like that, he still "shamelessly" went to sing.

"So every time it was time to sing, I would silently walk in, and when I saw her, I would lower my head and hide. After I finished singing, I would lower my head and hide outside," the singer confided.

Later, when he became a famous artist, he had the chance to meet the restaurant owner again, and this person even suggested inviting him back.

"In 1995, 1996, I sang for Mua bui and became famous. At that time, I received many invitations to sing and started to have choices. At that time, I would choose places where the audience would sit and listen to me sing instead of the audience sitting and eating without listening to anything.

The funny thing is that when the director saw me singing on "Dust Rain", she noticed me and asked Chung if she could invite me to sing. But Chung said that it was okay, but Truong's salary was very high now.

Later when I met her again, I also thanked her for letting me borrow that stage to practice even though sometimes we didn't do very well, affecting the restaurant. She also apologized to me, and promised to sing again when she returned to the restaurant," Lam Truong added.

Lam Truong was born in 1974. He was one of the most popular male singers in the late 1990s and early 2000s with many hits such as: "Love is so sad", "Vail shoes", "Katy Katy". The singer married for the second time to Yen Phuong, 17 years younger than him, in 2014.
