On the afternoon of April 1, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province confirmed that US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper and the provincial leaders visited the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Vung Chua, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Here, US Ambassador Marc Knapper and members of the delegation respectfully offered incense at the grave of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

This is Ambassador Marc Knapper’s second trip to Quang Binh province and the first time he has visited General Vo Nguyen Giap’s grave in Vung Chua. Previously, Ambassador Marc Knapper had the opportunity to visit and offer flowers in memory of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the General’s Memorial House in his hometown in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.

In 2004, Ambassador Marc Knapper met General Vo Nguyen Giap when he was still alive.

On the same morning, Mr. Tran Phong, Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee, received US Ambassador Marc Knapper on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, Ambassador Marc Knapper said that the US Government had previously stopped funding mine action projects in some localities in Vietnam. These projects have since resumed operations. Ambassador Marc Knapper's visit to Quang Binh province was to learn about and encourage those participating in these programs and projects.

Ambassador Marc Knapper also affirmed that the US Government will continue to support Vietnam in general and Quang Binh in particular in resolving the consequences of war through specific activities to heal the wounds of war, based on the principle of being honest with the past and working together towards a prosperous future.

Mr. Tran Phong said Quang Binh province has received much attention and support from the US government, embassy, ​​agencies and organizations through funding and support for humanitarian programs and projects, and non-refundable aid in the fields of education, health care and biodiversity conservation.

Mr. Tran Phong emphasized that Quang Binh has famous scenic spots, especially the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park with beautiful, majestic and unique caves; of which Son Doong Cave is the largest cave in the world and is increasingly loved by American tourists to explore.

“Recently, major American media companies have had many programs recorded, broadcast live, as well as voted and ranked very highly for Quang Binh's tourist attractions, helping the province promote its image globally,” said Mr. Tran Phong.
