The General's life and career were closely linked to the development of our country's revolution and the important, glorious, sacrificial and arduous historical milestones of the Party and nation.
During more than 30 years as Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Secretary of the Central Military Commission, General Vo Nguyen Giap's name is associated with the great victories of the two long resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, and with the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Our Party, State and people highly appreciate the contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Generations of officers and soldiers of our Army honor the General as the Elder Brother of the Vietnam People's Army.

President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa's State visit to Vietnam this time, after his visit 9 years ago as Vice President, is the first visit by a South African President in 18 years (since President Thabo Mbeki's visit in 2007), and is an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries, following the historic phone call between General Secretary To Lam and the President on April 22, 2025.
The event demonstrates the special importance and determination of the two countries in elevating bilateral relations. The visit not only strengthens the traditional friendship but also opens up opportunities for the two countries' leaders to comprehensively assess the cooperative relationship, orientate the promotion of economic, trade and investment cooperation, and exploit new potentials, towards a more comprehensive and deeper relationship in the future./.
