The President of South Africa visits the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

At General Vo Nguyen Giap's private residence, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa and the delegation offered incense and respectfully expressed their deep gratitude to General Vo Nguyen Giap.

During her state visit to Vietnam, on the morning of October 24th, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa and her delegation visited the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap (30 Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi ).

Also attending were Party Central Committee member, Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan.

At the private residence of General Vo Nguyen Giap, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa and the delegation offered incense and respectfully expressed their deep gratitude to General Vo Nguyen Giap, former member of the Politburo, former Secretary of the Central Military Commission, former Minister of National Defense , and Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Army.

South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa made a guest entry in the Guest Book of General Vo Nguyen Giap's family.

Mr. Vo Hong Nam, son of General Vo Nguyen Giap, presented South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa with a souvenir photo of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The General's life and career were closely intertwined with the development of our country's revolution and the momentous, glorious, and sacrificial historical milestones of the Party and the nation.

For over 30 years as Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Secretary of the Central Military Commission, General Vo Nguyen Giap's name is inextricably linked to the great victories of the two protracted wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, and to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam highly appreciate the contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Generations of officers and soldiers of our Army revere the General as the Elder Brother of the Vietnam People's Army.

President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa's State visit to Vietnam this time, after his visit 9 years ago as Vice President, is the first visit by a South African President in 18 years (since President Thabo Mbeki's visit in 2007), and is an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries, following the historic phone call between General Secretary To Lam and the President on April 22, 2025.

The event demonstrates the special importance and determination of the two countries in elevating bilateral relations. The visit not only strengthens the traditional friendship but also opens up opportunities for the two countries' leaders to comprehensively assess the cooperative relationship, orientate the promotion of economic, trade and investment cooperation, and exploit new potentials, towards a more comprehensive and deeper relationship in the future./.
