Nguom Sau Cave, located in Lang Giang village, Bang Mac commune (formerly Gia Loc commune), is one of the typical and "rare" archaeological sites in Northern Vietnam. The cave is located in a limestone mountain range with quite typical characteristics, not only containing archaeological values but also having important significance in paleontological, stratigraphic and paleogeological research.
Through many surveys, explorations and excavations (especially the excavation in July 2023), scientists have discovered and collected nearly 1,000 precious stone and ceramic artifacts, proving the history of residence and development of residents during the Bac Son Culture period. Typical artifacts found include: sharpened axes, stone core tools, flakes, Bac Son seals, and animal fossils from the late Pleistocene period on the cave ceiling. These discoveries have confirmed that Nguom Sau Cave was once a place of residence for ancient people in Vietnam, contributing to enriching the country's archaeological heritage.
The fact that Nguom Sau Cave was officially ranked as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is a great pride of the Party Committee, government and people of Bang Mac commune as well as the whole Lang Son province. This is an important premise to raise awareness of the historical and cultural value of the relic, creating motivation for the locality to strengthen measures to protect and preserve the relic and opening up opportunities to develop cultural tourism, experiential tourism, connecting with other tourist destinations of Lang Son province.
In the coming time, the locality will continue to promote and develop the value of the archaeological site of Hang Nguom Sau, turning it into an attractive destination, contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of the province.
