Accordingly, the roadmap was adopted at the meeting of governments and heads of state of the AU Security and Peace Council on May 27 regarding the situation in Sudan.
It outlines six elements, including establishing a coordination mechanism to ensure that all efforts by regional and international stakeholders are harmonized and effective; ending conflict immediately, permanently, and comprehensively; and providing practical humanitarian assistance.
The high-level meeting also stressed the paramount importance of a single, comprehensive, and unified peace process for Sudan under the joint auspices of the AU, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), the Arab League, and the United Nations, along with like-minded partners.
The statement following the meeting also stated: “The Council, with deep concern, strongly condemns the senseless and senseless conflict ongoing between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in an unprecedented and catastrophic humanitarian situation that has claimed the lives of many innocent civilians.”
According to the Sudanese Doctors Association, the conflict in Sudan has so far resulted in 863 civilian deaths and 3,531 injuries.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than 1 million people have been displaced since clashes erupted in the country.
