Interim Prime Minister Revealed, Opposition Withdraws Troops Amid Heavy Israeli Bombing

As Syria struggles to stabilize the country following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes across the neighboring country.

On December 10, Syrian media reported that the opposition controlling the country appointed Mohamed al-Bashir as head of the transitional government in Syria until March 1, 2025.

In a statement broadcast on television on December 10, Mr. Mohamed al-Bashir confirmed the above information.

He was previously appointed as the head of the opposition's "salvation government" in northwestern Syria.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Syrian opposition command, which launched a lightning offensive to take control of the country, ordered militants to withdraw from cities and replace them with police units and internal security forces affiliated with the leading group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

As the Syrian opposition is trying to stabilize the political and social situation in the country, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on December 10 that Israel has carried out more than 300 airstrikes across neighboring Syria after the fall of Mr. al-Assad.

Israeli warplanes have struck several military targets in Syria, destroying "the most important military facilities" in the country, including the Barzeh scientific research center and naval vessels and weapons depots around the Latakia military port.

Al Jazeera TV channel also reported on the same day that Israel attacked the Mezzeh neighborhood in the southwest of the Syrian capital Damascus, targeting a military airport and aircraft deployed there.
