Mr. Ngo Lam Son, Deputy Team Leader of Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs, said: "From December 10th, we began piloting a two-way cargo transportation method via the dedicated cargo transport route in the area of border markers 1119-1120. Just a few days after implementation, many import-export businesses passing through Huu Nghi International Border Gate have highly appreciated the benefits of this method. The application of two-way cargo transportation helps reduce transportation costs by 30% by optimizing the vehicle turnover rate."
Not only businesses importing and exporting goods via the dedicated transport route in the area of border markers 1119-1120, but also businesses importing and exporting goods via the dedicated transport route in the area of border markers 1088/2 - 1089 (Tan Thanh - Po Chai), and the customs clearance route in the area of border markers 1104 - 1105 (Coc Nam - Lung Nghiu) have highly appreciated the benefits from the province's implementation of two-way goods transportation through the dedicated routes and customs clearance routes belonging to the Huu Nghi - Huu Nghi Quan border gate pair in recent days.
Mr. Ly Ngoc Trinh, representative of LCA Import-Export Company (headquartered in Dong Dang commune), said: Previously, businesses only transported export goods in one direction, then the trucks returned empty, while all logistics costs at the port areas on both sides of the border still had to be borne. With the implementation of two-way transportation, businesses exporting fruit have contacted and found sources of goods to transport for import. This has helped businesses reduce many costs.
With two-way transportation, import-export businesses, after delivering export goods, can immediately receive import goods and "return" them within 24 hours without changing vehicles. In particular, for fruit and agricultural product import-export activities, receiving "return" shipments can help businesses save approximately 10 million VND per trip, while for electronics import-export businesses, this can save approximately 30 million VND per shipment.
The two-way cargo transportation method through the province's border gates is not a new initiative, but has been in place since 2020 – the time when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. After the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control, because the organization and implementation of two-way cargo transportation were not yet included in the specific regulations of the competent authorities of both countries, Lang Son province and Guangxi agreed to suspend the two-way cargo transportation method through their respective border gates.
Practical implementation (from 2020 to early 2024) has shown that the method of transporting goods in both directions through the border crossings of both sides has certain advantages.
Mr. Vu Quang Khanh, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone, said: The two-way cargo transportation method being implemented contributes to optimizing the use of transportation vehicles, accelerating the process of receiving and delivering import and export goods for businesses, and reducing logistics costs, especially for businesses importing and exporting goods within supply chains. At the same time, transportation businesses can consider signing flexible transportation contracts with export and import businesses to improve their business efficiency.
Trade and customs clearance activities between Vietnamese and Chinese businesses through the province's border gates have been developing rapidly in recent times. This is clearly demonstrated by the significant increase in the number of vehicles carrying import and export goods passing through the border gates of Lang Son and Guangxi from the beginning of 2025 to the present compared to the same period last year (from January 1, 2025 to the present, nearly 500,000 vehicles carrying import and export goods have passed through the province's border gates, an increase of nearly 40% compared to the same period in 2024).
In particular, in the context of Lang Son and Guangxi actively coordinating the implementation of the smart border gate model, the deployment of import and export goods delivery methods using various means, especially two-way cargo transportation, is and will bring "double" benefits to functional forces as well as import and export businesses through the province's border gates.
