Expanding Bai Tu Long Bay tourism space

In order to make Bai Tu Long Bay an attractive destination and at the same time create more local tourism products, Quang Ninh recently issued Decision No. 2119/QD-UBND dated July 19, 2024 on announcing 10 tours on Bai Tu Long Bay and 3 tours connecting Ha Long Bay - Bai Tu Long Bay. This is considered a breakthrough to "awaken" Bai Tu Long tourism after decades of "sleeping".

In order to open tourist attractions on Bai Tu Long Bay, departments, branches, local authorities and businesses of Quang Ninh have actively participated and conducted field surveys, assessed inland waterway traffic routes; inspected means of transport and infrastructure serving tourism on Bai Tu Long Bay; promoted communication and promotion of Bai Tu Long Bay...

To ensure the safety of tourism activities in Bai Tu Long Bay, authorities also regularly check the compliance of boat drivers with the Law on Inland Waterway Traffic.

Mr. Dao Van Vu, Vice Chairman of Van Don District People's Committee said: "To develop tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay, we are ready to "roll out the red carpet" to welcome businesses to the locality to invest in traffic infrastructure and facilities. Developing the tourism space of Bai Tu Long Bay in 2 main areas: Cai Bau Island tourist area (accommodation and service area along the coast including the communes: Ha Long, Van Yen, Binh Dan, Doan Ket, Dai Xuyen, Dong Xa and Cai Rong town); Sea and island tourist area 7 (including Ngoc Vung, Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ban Sen, Thang Loi communes, Bai Tu Long National Park, Bai Tu Long Bay).

Van Don district has also increased the attraction of social resources to invest in developing the tourism infrastructure system. At the same time, it encourages domestic and international strategic investors and international-class tourism brands to invest and develop complex tourism service areas and large-scale tourism service projects. In addition, Van Don also chooses methods that are suitable to the local potential and strengths, thereby focusing on investment and development associated with promoting environmental protection activities, prioritizing the development and improvement of the quality of tourism services, especially high-end resort tourism, increasing the length of stay and spending of tourists.

In particular, on May 5, 2025 at Ao Tien High-class Port, Everland Group held the opening ceremony of two high-class cruise ships Crystal Holidays 991 and Crystal Holidays 992 to serve tourists visiting Bai Tu Long Bay from this summer.

On this occasion, Crystal Holidays Tourism Joint Stock Company (a member of Everland Group) also launched a tourist itinerary called “The Beauty of Van Don” with 3 routes. It is known that Crystal Holidays 991 and Crystal Holidays 992 are the first 2 cruise ships in the project to develop a high-class cruise fleet of Everland Group, including day ships and overnight ships to exploit tourist itineraries to visit Bai Tu Long Bay and connecting itineraries between Bai Tu Long Bay and Ha Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay ( Hai Phong ).

The second wharf under construction by Mai Quyen Tourism Company Limited is being urgently completed to be put into operation in 2026.

In addition, Mai Quyen Tourism Company Limited, the management unit of Ao Tien High-class Port, is also speeding up the completion of the second port with the purpose of serving passengers for overnight ships and cruise ships. With a terminal with a capacity of 4 million passengers a year, modern equipment, spacious and clean waiting rooms and a system of pontoons that go up and down according to the water level. Accordingly, Ao Tien High-class Port will meet the needs of exploiting the potential of Bai Tu Long Bay. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in early 2026.

The development of tourism by expanding the exploitation of Bai Tu Long Bay is opening up many new opportunities and chances for Van Don district. Hopefully, with many advantages from nature and the determination of the locality, Van Don will always become an attractive destination in the journey of domestic and foreign tourists.
