Increase the value of agricultural products
“Today, you will be able to prepare and enjoy banh xeo, a specialty of Lam Dong coastal region. But instead of using shrimp, squid, pork, we will change it a bit, using monitor lizard meat…”, while introducing, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam skillfully performed the steps and guided tourists to practice preparing the dish right in his family’s garden of more than 7 hectares in Thien Trung quarter, Mui Ne ward.

Once a biology teacher at a coastal high school, Nguyen Minh Tam (born in 1981) changed his career to pursue his dream of clean agriculture. He started a business with a French pigeon farm in 2012, but unexpectedly, 4 years later, he went bankrupt because he could not find an outlet. However, being born into a farming family, the sun, wind, and hardship of the sandy land of Mui Ne beach have tempered the will and determination of this young man since childhood, making him not allow himself to give up.
“Why did I fail when I was able to produce clean, high-quality products? - That question kept lingering in my mind and I decided to stand up wherever I fell. After more than a year of traveling to farms in the South and the North to both study and find the answer to my problem, I finally found the solution. That is to do well in output, have specialized techniques and find the right people with the same passion,” Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam confided.
After 7 years of returning to raising French pigeons organically, this chain of farms and food products has now truly "taken root" in 20 provinces and cities in the country. In Lam Dong province alone, the largest farming areas are in Ham Thuan, Ham Thuan Nam, Duc Linh communes and Mui Ne ward. With a disease-free farming process, the product is assessed as having 3-star OCOP quality and has become a dish chosen by many restaurants, hotels and resorts in Mui Ne, Ho Chi Minh City. Over the years, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam has been the one who inspired farmers to raise local specialties organically. In addition, supporting breeding animals and guaranteeing output has helped many poor households in the locality to become prosperous.
Take advantage of local advantages
On weekends, especially from February to September, tourists from inside and outside the province flock to Ba Tuong Farm, owned by Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam in Mui Ne Ward. On average, the destination welcomes 250 visitors per day. Here, in addition to being able to prepare local specialties such as: spring rolls, spring rolls with spring rolls, grilled pigeons, grilled hybrid chickens, etc., groups also organize team building activities, visit Suoi Tien and enjoy Rang coconuts.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam realized that cuisine is the strength of a land, because it is closely linked to the culture of that place and if invested, it will create a source of income for local people. Therefore, in addition to French pigeon products, he wants to introduce to tourists about sea food and fruits grown on sandy soil in the Southeast of the province.
Experiencing the livestock models, enjoying the specialties and walking around the shady coconut garden makes many tourists when coming here express their excitement and satisfaction. They seem to be recharged with energy to continue their journey to explore the blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine of Lam Dong province.
Mr. Tran Chi Tao - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Mui Ne Ward said that with determination and creativity, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam's model not only promotes local agricultural development but also creates additional income for the community. This is a channel connecting tourism, promoting and consuming specialty products, contributing to orienting economic development associated with rural tourism - an inevitable trend in the coming time.
