Safety for students going to class
On the morning of November 3, Kim Dong Primary School (Nam Tra My commune) organized groups of male teachers to coordinate with the Party cell secretary, village chief and parents to go to Tra Mai and Tak Lu villages, which were heavily affected by landslides, to pick up students to go to school.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Vice Principal in charge of Kim Dong Primary School, said that the school has 5 campuses, 23 classes with 645 students. In recent days, due to prolonged rain, many roads in the Nam Tra My area have been eroded, making it difficult for students to travel. However, the school's facilities were not damaged, taking advantage of the good weather, teachers proactively went to the school to clean up, welcome students and prepare to return to teaching.
Mr. Phuc said that due to landslides in many sections, traveling was difficult, so some of the peaks were far away, so parents had to walk their children to the meeting point, then teachers used motorbikes to take them to school. Thanks to that, picking up and dropping off students was convenient and safe.
The school has 84 students from Tak Lu and Tra Mai villages, which are located 8-17km away from the main school. The road is steep, with many landslides, and is almost isolated during the rainy season. The children are young and cannot go to school and return home during the day, so they stay at school from Monday to Friday to study, live and eat together.

In addition, there are still some students from remote areas and those who went to the plains during the rainy break who have not been able to return because the road from Bac Tra My to Nam Tra My is still in the repair phase. Up to now, about 80% of the school's students have returned to class. It is expected that when the road is cleared, all students will be able to return to school.
“The school is also rearranging its flexible timetable to ensure the teaching program is suitable for the weather conditions, in the context that storm No. 13 is forecast to affect from November 6 to 11 and mountainous areas will still have many rainy periods in November,” Mr. Phuc shared.
To prepare for students to return to school from November 4, on November 3, teachers of Tra Van Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities were present at the school to prepare for teaching and learning.
Mr. Ngo Dinh Cuong, Vice Principal of the school, said that Tra Van Ethnic Boarding Secondary School has 8 classes with 257 students. The school does not have a satellite campus, but most of the students live far away. After the flood, many roads were eroded, so teachers went to their homes to inform and support them to return to school. Students who live far away and study at the boarding school have been at school since the afternoon of November 3. The school and teachers are ready for teaching and learning to resume as normal.
Flexibility in teaching and learning
The prolonged rain and floods in the past few days have caused serious landslides at Tak Ngo school, part of Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School (Tra Linh commune). Soil flowing down from above has cracked the walls, causing the entire foundation behind to collapse, while the front has been pushed back, causing the road and fence to collapse. The school yard and classroom floors have cracked and collapsed.

This school has 2 classrooms and a block of teachers' dormitories built mainly from socialized sources, estimated at 2 billion VND. To ensure safety, 34 students in grades 1-2 at this school were transferred to study at the main school.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy, the school's principal, said that in order to have enough rooms for the two classes transferred from Tak Ngo school, the auditorium will be temporarily used as a classroom. The students at this school all live far away, so the school must also flexibly calculate and arrange accommodation for the students.
In Tra Tan, Tra Tap, Tra Linh communes..., most schools announced that students will return to school from November 3.
Mr. Truong Cong Mot, Principal of Chu Van An Primary Boarding School (Tra Tap Commune) said that students may not attend school fully in the first few days. Currently, in some villages such as Tak Roi, the river water is rising and flowing rapidly; in the villages of Tak Po, Lang Luong, and Lap Loa, many households have suffered landslides and still have not yet settled down.
“Therefore, the school plans to make up for lost time on Friday afternoons and Saturdays to meet the school year deadline. For those who return to school late, teachers will provide extra tutoring in the evening to supplement their knowledge and meet the program requirements,” said Mr. Mot.
It is known that the city's education and training sector is urgently collecting statistics on the needs of textbooks, notebooks... of students in schools affected by storms and floods in recent days to have a support plan. Schools in favorable areas have launched a movement to donate and support uniforms, used textbooks, notebooks, school bags, and school supplies to send to students in flooded areas.
