On the afternoon of September 7, after 17 days of release and one early screening, the movie "Red Rain" exceeded the revenue of 552 billion VND according to statistics from the Box Office Vietnam (BOVN) platform.
The heat of The movie caused a spike in the number of people visiting the BOVN website to track sales. At around 5 p.m. the same day, a platform representative said the website traffic had increased 100 times compared to normal days and was working to fix the problem to get the site back up and running.
Despite the error, the film still holds the "top 1" position in the history of the box office in Vietnam. Specifically, on September 6, BOVN reported that the film reached 520 billion VND. The platform representative explained that BOVN's statistics are based on the listed ticket price multiplied by the number of tickets sold, excluding taxes, promotions and the distribution fee. Therefore, BOVN's statistics will be higher than the actual revenue and the number provided by the distributor.
However, the revenue of “Red Rain” will certainly continue to increase. The film is expected to be shown for at least two more months or longer ( “Flip Side 7” was in theaters for more than 3 months). Many observers expect the mark of more than 650-700 billion VND or even further.
This achievement puts the film far ahead of “Mai” – the old “top 1” box office – directed by Tran Thanh. The director posted on his personal page: “Congratulations to Red Rain for becoming the top 1 box office film,” while praising the impressive, grandiose and well-crafted work, calling on audiences to go to the cinema the day before.

Director, Meritorious Artist Bui Trung Hai (second director and main cinematographer of “ Hanoi 12 Days and Nights” ) commented that the film “has a profound view of both the material and spiritual losses of soldiers, and tries to emphasize the issue of national reconciliation.”
In addition, he commented that the work not only continues the tradition of Vietnamese war films, but also affirms the market adaptability of a film ordered by the State.
“The release of the film 'Red Rain' has also affirmed the ability to adapt to society of films ordered by the state, produced by state film studios, through a nationwide distribution network, along with an extremely methodical and extensive PR communication campaign in the press and social networks, not inferior to private films.
That is also the right direction to attract audiences to the cinema. That is an element that previous Vietnamese historical war films did not have. We are waiting for the next developments of this film genre,” said director Bui Trung Hai./.
