The US pledges to support Vietnam in strengthening its military modernization.

The United States welcomes opportunities for stronger defense cooperation with Vietnam and is committed to supporting Vietnam in enhancing the modernization of its military.
At a press conference on December 19th at the Vietnam International Defence Exhibition 2024, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper affirmed that the message of "Peace, friendship, cooperation and development" in Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's speech resonated strongly, especially with the United States.

"The U.S. participation in the exhibition demonstrates the commitment of the U.S. government and defense industry to supporting Vietnam in strengthening the diversification and modernization of its military. At the same time, we hope our major defense companies will work with Vietnam on potential issues such as joint production and technology transfer," Ambassador Knapper affirmed. This year, the U.S. brought A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft and C-130J transport aircraft to the exhibition. A large number of U.S. defense companies also participated in the event. The U.S. Ambassador also emphasized that the historic and unprecedented participation of the U.S. government and private sector in this exhibition demonstrates a commitment to Vietnam. The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Jedidiah Royal, affirmed that the unprecedentedly large-scale presence of the US at the exhibition, in terms of both personnel and equipment, clearly demonstrates the US commitment and strong support for a prosperous and independent Vietnam in general, and the modernization efforts of the Vietnamese People's Army in particular. “We always welcome opportunities for stronger cooperation with Vietnam and other countries in the region, both bilaterally and multilaterally,” Jedidiah Royal stated. The Commander of the US Indo- Pacific Command, Admiral Samuel Paparo, expressed confidence that defense cooperation between the US and Vietnam will continue to develop in the future. Admiral Samuel Paparo also assessed: "Vietnam has participated in cooperation activities supporting humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and military medicine, contributing to promoting ASEAN's central role, fostering a rules-based international order, and working towards stability, independence, and development in the region."
