Male student shares "5-word magic spell" to study well in university

(Dan Tri) - The first stumble with a perfect score of 0 and the lesson of effort were shared by an outstanding male student of the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University with new students.

Le Huynh Nhat Thanh, a young party member and talented student of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Science , gave an impressive speech to more than 4,500 new students at the school's opening ceremony held on September 12.

First lesson from zero point

Standing on the podium, Thanh recalled 4 years ago, when he and other new students began a new journey.

Unlike today's live and bustling opening ceremony, Thanh's ceremony 4 years ago was just a flickering screen due to network lag (slow, unstable internet connection).

Thanh said he was like a "blank sheet of paper" at that time. And there was also the moment when the male student had to face his first shock: a zero in the midterm.

Instead of giving up, the male student realized that challenges were not something to be avoided but an opportunity.

"If you try hard enough, you will overcome that challenge and learn some lessons," the student shared.

Thanks to his efforts, Thanh not only passed the 0 but also achieved the highest score in the class in the final exam. He compared the university journey to a role-playing game, where you will conquer "bosses" (a big challenge, a strongest enemy) called challenges and just by making little efforts, you will overcome all difficulties.

"The 5-word "don't" mantra for new students

To make the university journey more meaningful, Nhat Thanh sent new students a magic spell consisting of 5 words "don't".

First, don't be afraid of being lost. Everyone starts from zero, from being a "rookie". You will soon find your own rhythm.

Second, don’t think of college as just about grades. Studying is the main task, but college also provides valuable experiences and skills. A low grade is not a failure, what matters is what you learn from it.

Third, don't be different. Open your arms, connect with friends, join activities, clubs, and teams to build new relationships.

Fourth, don’t just study. Balance between studying and personal development, between material and spiritual. The male student advised his new students to participate in sports , volunteer work or simply go out for snacks with friends as a way to maintain balance.

Finally, don't be afraid to seek support.

"This is not a solo mode game. When you encounter difficulties, seek out friends, teachers or the student affairs office. There will always be someone ready to listen and support you," Le Huynh Nhat Thanh shared.

University is a journey of autonomy and responsibility.

In his heartfelt opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Le Quan, Principal of the school, advised more than 4,500 new students, who according to him are the "golden seeds" that society has entrusted to the school.

From here, the children's talents and intelligence continue to be nurtured, shine and contribute to the country.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Le Quan affirmed: "University is a journey of autonomy and responsibility. At this level of education, no one can read a book to the last page for you, nor can anyone help you overcome a difficult problem, but the school will always accompany you so that you have the right method, lasting motivation and a favorable environment for development."

The principal advised new students to practice being proactive and creative in their studies, knowing how to take advantage of the power of technology, but at the same time being alert and selective about information.

The school's new students of the 2025-2026 class also left their mark with many outstanding faces.

In the admission method based on the results of the high school graduation exam, the two valedictorians are student Truong Van Hung (Computer and Information Technology group) and student Huynh Tuong An (Artificial Intelligence group) both achieved 29.75 points in block A00.

In the admission method based on the results of the competency assessment test, student Tran Nhu Khai (Computer Science major) held the top position with 1,106 points. In addition, many new students also made their mark in international academic competitions.
