NATO attaches importance to the Indo-Pacific region

At the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit held in Lithuania on July 11 and 12, leaders of NATO member countries agreed to strengthen security cooperation with partners in the Indo- Pacific region.

The joint communique of the conference affirmed that the Indo- Pacific plays an important role for NATO because developments in this region can directly affect the security of the Euro-Atlantic region. Previously, NATO proposed to establish a liaison office in Tokyo to facilitate coordination with Asia-Pacific partners.

At the conference, NATO member countries decided that each country should spend at least 2% of its GDP on military spending in the future and discussed plans to bring Ukraine closer to NATO.
