Euro 2032 is scheduled to be held in Italy and Türkiye. However, progress in modernizing some of Italy's stadiums for Euro 2032 has been too slow, causing UEFA officials to warn that Italy could lose the right to host the tournament.
Speaking on Sport.ru, President of the Russian Football Federation (RFS) Alexander Dyukov said Russia could host Euro 2032 instead of Italy.
"Italy is having some problems with the stadium. If they lose the right to host, Russia is ready to replace them," Mr. Dyukov said.
Russia is proud to have some of the best facilities in Europe as it hosted the 2018 World Cup.
However, Russia are certainly not being considered to replace Italy as they are banned from international football events by UEFA and FIFA following the conflict with Ukraine that broke out in 2022.
However, Mr. Dyukov's statement is considered to put great pressure on Italy. President of the Italian football league's governing body Ezio Simonelli admitted: "I am really worried about Euro 2032. Stadiums that need to be modernized are in a state of paralysis. UEFA has warned about that and we are looking for a way to solve the problem."
