On the evening of October 28th, a video was posted on Facebook showing a man being swept away by floodwaters beneath the Ha Nha bridge in Ha Nha commune, Da Nang (formerly part of Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province).
This man was lucky enough to cling to a utility pole. Despite the raging floodwaters of the Vu Gia River, he managed to hold on tightly to the pole.
On the Ha Nha bridge, many people were shouting for help so that those in boats could come to their rescue.
People also shouted encouragement to the man, urging him to hold on and wait for rescue.
Then the two men rowed out in their boat to rescue the victim, bringing him safely aboard.
After being rescued, the man lay exhausted on the boat after clinging to a utility pole in the middle of the floodwaters. On the bridge, many people applauded the two boatmen for their timely rescue, like something out of a movie.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online that evening, Mr. Mai Thanh Sang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Nha commune, said that the person swept away by the flood was Mr. Luong Hai, from Ngoc Kinh Dong village, Ha Nha commune.
At 6:30 PM that same day, Mr. Hai was rowing his boat out to check on his cows at the farm when it suddenly capsized. A resident of Hoa Huu Dong village, who was working as a Grab driver, spotted him and called for help.
Local military forces later arrived at the scene, but fortunately, Mr. Hai was rescued by locals who swam out in boats and brought ashore.
Two people rowed out in a boat to rescue them.
The man was safely brought onto the boat.
