On October 28th, immediately following the incident of mistakenly using the Chinese flag instead of the Vietnamese national flag at the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, the President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Ms. Nualphan Lamsam (or Madam Pang), quickly sent a letter of apology to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan.
In the letter, Madam Pang expressed “deepest regret and sincerest apologies” for the serious error, asserting that the incident did not reflect “the spirit of respect and appreciation that FAT always holds for its member federations and their national symbols.”
In addition, the FAT chairman is fully aware of the seriousness of the incident and "takes full responsibility for the negligence that occurred."
Madam Pang sends letter of apology to VFF.
"On behalf of FAT, I would like to express our deepest regret and sincerest apologies for the unfortunate incident involving the incorrect placement of the Vietnamese flag during the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, to be held in Thailand on October 28, 2025."
"This absolutely does not reflect the respect and appreciation that FAT has for all member federations and their national symbols. We are fully aware of the seriousness of this mistake and take full responsibility for the oversight that occurred," the FAT President stated.
The FAT president also affirmed that the federation immediately reviewed and adjusted its organizational procedures to ensure that similar mistakes would not recur.
"FAT would like to offer its sincere apologies to the VFF, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), and all relevant parties," Madam Pang said, also expressing her desire to personally apologize to VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan in the near future.
She emphasized that FAT is committed to maintaining “the highest standards of professionalism and respect” in all events hosted by Thailand.
Reportedly, immediately after the incident, Madam Pang and the General Secretary of FAT also directly called to apologize to the President and General Secretary of VFF.
