Immediately after the incident, the leaders of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation held direct discussions with the leaders of the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association. The emphasis was on the need for team leaders, federation and association representatives to provide timely support, empathy, and encouragement to athletes throughout the training and competition process at the SEA Games 33, especially during psychologically sensitive periods.
According to information from the Vietnamese swimming team's coaching staff, after completing her competition and receiving the silver medal, Vo Thi My Tien had a brief conversation with the leaders of the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association. The conversation touched upon professional matters and competition techniques, but the timing and approach were inappropriate, causing the young swimmer to lose control of her emotions, leading her to burst into tears and leave the competition area in a state of sadness.
In the women's 400m individual medley, My Tien competed with great effort. She had a good start, stayed close to the leading group throughout the race, and was less than a second behind the home athlete Kamonchanok at the finish line. The silver medal is a commendable result, but for My Tien herself, it is still a great regret as she was so close to victory.
Born in 2005, Vo Thi My Tien is one of the most promising young talents in Vietnamese swimming, having previously competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the 33rd SEA Games, she is expected to continue to be a key player for the national team.
