VnExpressVnExpress15/02/2024

President Putin announced that Russian scientists are close to creating a cancer vaccine that could soon be available to patients.

"Russia is very close to successfully developing a cancer vaccine and a new generation of immunomodulators. I hope these drugs will soon be used effectively in individual treatment regimens," Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 14 at a technology forum in Moscow.

The Kremlin chief did not specify what type of cancer the vaccine targets, nor how it works.

Several countries and companies are working on cancer vaccines. The UK has signed a deal with Germany's BioNTech in 2023 to deploy 10,000 experimental treatments to cancer patients by 2030.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are currently six licensed vaccines that can protect against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes many types of cancer.
