Get rich from red-fleshed jackfruit
Among the pioneering farmers who innovated to get rich is Mr. Nguyen Minh Trang (Hai Trang) in Hamlet 3, Vi Thanh 1 Commune.

The red-fleshed jackfruit tree brings Mr. Hai Trang's family an income of more than 1 billion VND/year.
Walking around the red-fleshed jackfruit garden during the harvest season, looking at the big, round, heavy jackfruits, with a radiant face, Mr. Hai Trang said that thanks to growing red-fleshed jackfruit, his family's life has become more prosperous.
The chance to come across the red-fleshed jackfruit variety for Mr. Hai Trang started by chance in 2002. At that time, when visiting a plant variety fair in Can Tho City, he was introduced to the red-fleshed jackfruit variety so he bought 50 trees to plant around his house.
The jackfruit trees grew quickly and soon bore fruit. But only one tree bore fruit, which when ripe split into dark red segments, aromatic, crunchy and sweet. The remaining trees bore normal fruit, but when ripe the pulp, fibers and segments were yellow like the local jackfruit trees. Mr. Hai Trang decided to keep only this red-fleshed jackfruit tree for propagation, and he cut down all the other 49 trees.
Mr. Hai Trang started grafting branches to propagate red-fleshed jackfruit. Then, he renovated 4 hectares of garden that were growing durian and mango to grow jackfruit. Red-fleshed jackfruit is suitable for the soil and grows well, so it can be harvested year-round. Mr. Hai Trang shared: "The jackfruit is delicious and sweet, traders from all over come to the garden to order. I also cover the fruit with nets to prevent pests and diseases, keep the fruit beautiful and of high quality."
The outstanding efficiency helped him quickly accumulate capital. After 4 years, Mr. Hai Trang bought 6 more hectares of land, and in 2015 he expanded by 14 more hectares, bringing the total area of red-fleshed jackfruit cultivation to about 2.4 hectares.
Currently, each year Mr. Hai Trang's jackfruit garden supplies about 30 tons of fruit, selling for 20,000-80,000 VND/kg, depending on the time. Not stopping there, since 2019, he has opened a seedling business, supplying thousands of red-fleshed jackfruit trees each year, selling for 80,000-100,000 VND/tree. On average, each year Mr. Hai Trang's family earns over 1 billion VND.
Mr. Hai Trang said: “Farming cannot be done in the traditional way forever. If you want to get better, you have to innovate and accept risks. Thanks to the red-fleshed jackfruit tree, not only my family but many households in the hamlet are now well-off.”
Change your life thanks to pineapple
If Mr. Hai Trang is famous for the red-fleshed jackfruit variety, Mr. Tran Van Ba (Muoi Ba) in Thanh Quoi 1 hamlet, Hoa Luu commune, is successful with Cau Duc pineapple.

Thanks to the use of organic fertilizers, Mr. Muoi Ba's pineapple garden grows well.
“I learned farming techniques through newspapers, the Internet, and then attended training courses organized by the locality and the Department of Agriculture . I also traveled to many places and met with good pineapple growers to learn more. Thanks to that, I learned how to take care of pineapple plants to achieve high quality and yield,” Mr. Muoi Ba confided.
Mr. Muoi Ba’s success is the shift from traditional production to green production. Instead of overusing chemical fertilizers, he gradually switched to using organic fertilizers for crops. This method helps improve poor soil, retain moisture better, and at the same time provide natural nutrients, helping pineapple plants grow healthy.
In addition, he also processes pineapples to produce fruit in different seasons to avoid the situation of "good harvest, low price". Applying this method helps stabilize pineapple yield, solid output, so his family has a steady income every month of the year.
In recent years, when the demand for pineapple consumption increased, the price of grade 1 pineapple sometimes reached 12,000-14,000 VND/fruit, and on average 8,000-10,000 VND/fruit, bringing a large income to Mr. Muoi Ba's family. From the initial 7 hectares of pineapple land, he has now expanded the area to more than 10 hectares, with a revenue of about 1.5 billion VND/year.
The valuable thing is that Mr. Muoi Ba does not keep the secret to himself, but proactively shares his experience with many people. Thanks to that, many households in Thanh Quoi 1 hamlet have learned from his pineapple growing model to both improve productivity and quality, and have stable product output. Currently, Cau Duc pineapple is not only consumed locally, but is also purchased by traders and transported to provinces, cities and wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City for consumption.
The story of Mr. Hai Trang and Mr. Muoi Ba not only demonstrates the change of two individuals, but also the image of Can Tho farmers in the dynamic and creative integration period - real billionaires, getting rich by their own labor and intelligence.
