Artist Hoa Lan and People's Artist Hung Minh
On July 28, city leaders visited and presented gifts to outstanding artists who have made many contributions to the literature and arts of Ho Chi Minh City over the past time.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - together with representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports , the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association visited People's Artist Hung Minh.
To maintain the 86-year-old artist's stable spirit and health, few people know that People's Artist Hung Minh's life partner has taken very good care of him.
Artist Hoa Lan and People's Artist Hung Minh
In the world of theater, there are artists who stand under the bright lights, glory calling their names. But there are also people, like artist Hoa Lan - wife of People's Artist Hung Minh, who quietly exist and contribute, living fully with their profession with a love that does not need to be ostentatious.
Her life is a journey between two generations of theater – from family tradition to personal professional ability – between the lights of the cai luong stage and the television screen, between acting and prompting, between "leading role" and "backstage". Wherever she is, she is a true artistic worker.
Hoa Lan follows the stage as a destiny
She is the daughter of playwright Nguyen Huynh - the author of the script "The Bandit Bach Hai Duong" which was famous in both the reformed and spoken theater stages - and artist Hoai Dung - who used to participate in the famous Hoai Dung - Hoai My theater troupe.
Hoa Lan grew up in a home where the sound of the stage was a daily breath. For many people, pursuing a singing career is a choice. For her, it was destiny.
Artist Hoa Lan in a supporting role during filming
On stage since 1974, at the Hoa Lan Opera Group founded by her parents, the young girl at that time soon showed her seriousness and self-respect for the profession.
Not relying on her family's reputation to create a shortcut, she started by studying traditional music with musician Ut Trong, then experienced many singing groups: Saigon 1, Truc Giang, Tieng Ca Song Cuu...
She was not only a troupe artist, but also a person who lived a wandering life of reformed opera during a period of many changes.
A time of attachment - a heart that never leaves
The peak period in her journey was probably the years with Thanh Nga Opera Troupe and then Ho Chi Minh City Performing Arts Troupe.
Here, she is not a star sought after by the media, but is always the face that directors trust to give roles, an artist who "knows her profession", "has a profession" and "keeps her profession".
Artist Hoa Lan also has a career in dubbing movies.
When Cai Luong began to enter a period of decline from the late 1980s, artist Hoa Lan stopped performing on the stage of troupes. But she did not leave the stage.
In 2000, she moved in with People's Artist Hung Minh - her husband, 20 years older than her, a former stage talent, he won the Thanh Tam Gold Medal in 1959, loved for his unique roles.
Artist Hoa Lan chose to continue living with art through a new path: cinema and television. "I came to live with Mr. Hung Minh. Everyone said that he specializes in playing a single character so he has a difficult personality, but I am very happy because he loves his wife very much" - Artist Hoa Lan said.
The proud supporting roles
Starting with the movie "Dai Gia Dinh" - where both she and Mr. Hung Minh had roles - she gradually appeared in many TV series: "Au O Vi Dau", "Huong Tinh", "Can Mot Bo Vai", "Nguoi Mai Vi", "Ca Bet Cuoc Doi", "Tro Ve 2", "Gia Cua Nu Cuoi", "Dau Bach Ho"...
Her roles are mostly not big, but are always full of character: real, rustic, imbued with life experience and the wisdom of someone who has been on stage for half her life.
Artist Hoa Lan is also a prestigious prompter. She is working at Thien Dang stage (photo: Lan Tran).
With her gentle and unassuming acting, artist Hoa Lan is the type of artist who "may not cause a stir but always leaves a lasting impression". The charm and sincerity in her every glance and gesture make viewers believe that she is that character - a country mother, an old neighbor, a water seller or a gentle maid... familiar yet unforgettable images.
Quietly contributing to the profession
In addition to acting, Hoa Lan is also known as a voiceover artist with an emotional voice, having narrated films such as "Grandma's Legacy", "Snow White", "Seeds of the Soul", "Listening to Happiness"...
In particular, for many years now, she has been attached to the quiet work of being a prompter. For many people, this is a supporting role, but on stage, the prompter is the one who keeps the flow and rhythm of the entire play.
Artist Hoa Lan always supports young actors, participating in many film and drama projects of the successor team.
Once, artist Hoang Trinh had an unexpected accident before the performance of the play "Giang Huong - Late Night Stage" (Thien Dang Stage), artist Hoa Lan did not hesitate to take her place.
She knew every scene, line, and situation by heart. That "rescue" not only demonstrated her mettle but also showed that she had never stopped studying, that she had mastered each play like it was her own flesh and blood.
"Today, artist Hoa Lan still appears regularly at Thien Dang Drama Theater and Vu Luan Theater as a prompter. She loves her job and works seriously, that is a true artist" - Meritorious Artist Vu Luan shared.
