BHG - With the goal of developing commercial livestock farming on a farm scale, improving product quality and value, Ngoc Duong commune ( Ha Giang city) actively integrates support capital from national target programs, projects, and livelihood support models. Thereby, creating conditions for people to invest in building solid barns, buying high-quality livestock breeds, and promoting livestock development.

The total herd of livestock and poultry in Ngoc Duong commune is currently over 32 thousand, of which cattle, buffaloes, and goats alone are 3,849; poultry is over 28,180; the area of aquaculture ponds is maintained at 23.4 hectares. Due to the controlled epidemic situation and stable consumption market, this year, the number of livestock and poultry tends to increase compared to the same period. In particular, with the close guidance and direction of the commune government and professional staff, livestock models are being expanded in scale such as: Commercial black pig farming model; breeding and commercial civet; black chicken and sugarcane chicken farming model... concentrated in Son Ha, Thai Ha, Doan Ket villages. At the same time, developing a large-scale commercial goat farming model of over 30 goats/household, implemented in Ban Cuom 1 village with a reinvestment loan of 50 million VND from the Commune People's Committee.

The family of Mr. Hoang Van Hoa, Ban Cuom 1 village, Ngoc Duong commune is one of the typical households leading the movement of raising commercial goats. He shared: “Previously, my family was gardening and farming on a small area, the economy was not stable. After being introduced to the reinvestment loan from the Commune People's Committee, my family contacted to register to buy breeds. From the support capital, I bought breeding goats and invested in building barns. Currently, my family is raising 40 large and small goats using the natural grazing method, and it is expected that by September this year they can be sold. Because I have just started raising goats, I have learned more knowledge from the models of people in the surrounding area as well as the guidance of professional staff to ensure a clean, airy and effective disease prevention environment.”

In addition to the commercial goat farming model, the black chicken farming model is being boldly expanded by many households in Ban Cuom 1 village. A typical example is Mr. Sam Thanh Binh's family, who initially raised chickens on a small scale but due to lack of experience, the efficiency was not high. After receiving a project to support the purchase of breeds from the Government , he began to expand the scale to more than 1,000 chickens and followed the correct instructions on the process and techniques of raising chickens, so the flock developed well. Currently, the wholesale price is about 90,000 VND/kg, retail from 110,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, initially creating a stable livelihood.

In addition to implementing farm-scale livestock farming models, the People's Committee of Ngoc Duong commune proactively controls the disease situation in livestock herds, preventing dangerous diseases from spreading. Implement the plan "Month of general cleaning, disinfection, and prevention of animal diseases in 2025" in the commune to all villages and hamlets. Accordingly, the villages establish sanitation teams including forces such as veterinary officers, militia, police, village health workers, youth union members, etc. to clean up the areas where livestock and poultry are kept, collect manure, garbage, and bedding for treatment; clear sewers and ditches, clear bushes and weeds, sweep village roads and alleys; spray disinfectants, sprinkle lime powder in the entire livestock and poultry farming area and the yard, garden, and roads once a week.

By encouraging the development of livestock farming towards commodities and farm scale, households in Ngoc Duong commune have been gradually increasing their income and promoting economic development from livestock farming. This is not only a development direction suitable to the local advantages but also a practical solution in implementing the goal of restructuring the agricultural sector and promoting sustainable rural economic development.
