In 2021, the Women's Union of Chi Lang Commune, Chi Lang District (old) coordinated with the Commune Youth Union to build a "Green House" model located at the Commune People's Committee headquarters. The model aims to collect recycled waste and raise funds to support poor women and orphans in difficult circumstances.
Ms. Dam Ngoc Thuy, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Chi Lang Commune (new) said: The new commune was established on the basis of merging the old Chi Lang Commune with Dong Mo Town and the old Chi Lang Town. Realizing that the model has many practical meanings, the Women's Unions of the old communes and towns have actively promoted and mobilized members to establish "green houses". Currently, 8 "green houses" have been built in the commune. From 2023 to now, members have collected over 4,020 kg of recyclable waste, selling scrap for more than 3 million VND. The above amount has been saved by the Women's Union of the commune to buy 20 gifts to support disadvantaged women and children in the area. Although the value of the gifts is not large, it is a motivation to help those in difficult circumstances rise up in life.
Similar to Chi Lang commune, Dong Kinh ward is also a locality that maintains and effectively implements the "green house" model. Ms. Vu Thi Kim Hoa, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Dong Kinh ward, said: In the ward, there are currently 27/40 blocks with the "green house" model. "Green houses" are designed with sturdy steel frames, with locks, covered with iron mesh and placed in convenient locations for people to dispose of scrap. Since the establishment and launch of the "green house" model, the Women's Union of the blocks has promoted and mobilized people to actively collect and dispose of recyclable waste in the "green houses" to raise funds. Since the launch of the first model in the ward (2023) up to now, the Women's Union of the blocks has collected and sold scrap for more than 14 million VND. The above amount is saved, raised funds to support and help families in difficult circumstances in the ward.
It is known that since 2021, the Women's Unions of communes in the province have actively responded to and implemented the "green house" model. Accordingly, up to now, the whole province has 120 "green houses" located at cultural houses, agencies and units of communes and wards in the province such as: Dong Dang, Mau Son, Huu Lung communes, Ky Lua ward, Tam Thanh ward... People collect recyclable waste in the "green houses". Every month, the grassroots Women's Unions will collect and sell scrap. All proceeds will be saved and contributed to support difficult circumstances, support charity programs, charity porridge cooking programs for patients... This is a small job but has great significance for the community.
Ms. Vu Thi Huyen Trang, Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, Head of the Women's Affairs Department of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, said: "Green House" is a model that brings practical and meaningful results, so when it was first implemented, it was actively responded to by women in the province. This model has been effective and has spread in the community, contributing to changing people's awareness in protecting and preserving the environment; at the same time, this is also a form of saving for social security activities in the area. In the coming time, the Provincial Women's Union will continue to direct the Women's Unions of communes and wards to strengthen propaganda for members and actively replicate the model.
With the motto "small work, big impact", the implementation of the "green house" model has had great significance. Thereby, it has contributed to changing people's awareness in protecting and preserving the green - clean - beautiful environment, and joining hands to save for the community.
