The 24-man shortlist for the 2025 Golden Boy award includes a host of big names, including Chelsea's Estevao, Barca's Pau Cubarsi, Real's trio Arda Guler, Franco Mastantuono, Dean Huijsen and Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly. However, the eventual winner was Desire Doue, a 20-year-old French talent who plays for PSG.
In the 2024/25 season, with 16 goals and 16 assists in 61 matches, Doue was one of the key factors helping PSG win the treble (Ligue 1, French Cup and Champions League). In the Champions League final against Inter Milan, he was voted the best player of the match with two goals and 1 assist.
Thanks to this outstanding season, Doue finished 14th in the 2025 Ballon d'Or rankings, and also finished second in the Kopa Trophy award, behind Lamine Yamal. In the Golden Boy award founded by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Yamal was honored last year and was not considered this year.
The Golden Boy award is open to players under 21 who play in one of the top 25 leagues in UEFA's coefficient rankings. The winner is chosen using the Benchmark Index, a tool created to analyse player data, including playing time, performance and achievements. Doue is the 23rd player to be honoured, following Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Yamal and Jude Bellingham, Jobe's brother, who was also shortlisted this season.
The official Golden Boy award ceremony will take place on December 1. Doue is the second PSG player to receive the prestigious individual award after a brilliant 2024/25 season. Previously, as known, Ousmane Dembele won the Golden Ball.
