Honey products of Trung Giap Commune Honey Beekeeping Cooperative have been recognized as OCOP products in 2022.

These days, members of the Trung Giap Commune Beekeeping Cooperative are busy with honey exploitation and processing. With more than 20 years of beekeeping experience, Mr. Ha Van Thanh - Deputy Head of the Trung Giap Commune Beekeeping Cooperative has a lot of experience and success in beekeeping. Currently, Mr. Thanh owns 66 bee colonies and regularly separates them to sell to people in the commune and neighboring areas.

Gently opening the lid of the box to check the quality of the honey of the bee colony, Mr. Thanh shared: “To ensure a healthy bee colony, producing good quality products, high honey yield, beekeepers must grasp characteristics such as building nests, dividing the colony, understanding the types of flowers, blooming seasons, and honey-collecting seasons. At the same time, they must know how to arrange the bee colonies in a cool, clean place, with the entrance and exit holes designed to be compact enough for bees to fit through, preventing natural enemies from entering, and preventing diseases for the bee colony.”

Through research, it is known that the beekeeping profession in Trung Giap has existed for a long time, originating from people going to the hills and forests to exploit honey in nature. Gradually, people learned how to catch bees and tame them by releasing them into pre-built beehives, then they went to collect flowers and give honey. Thus, the beekeeping profession gradually developed and expanded, becoming the livelihood of the people here.

To promote the local advantages, since the end of 2022, the Trung Giap Commune Honey Beekeeping Cooperative has been established and has become a hub for honey consumption for its members. All members of the group are excited because since participating in production activities according to the model, they have achieved many benefits from being supported and sharing beekeeping techniques to linking and consuming products.

Currently, the Cooperative has 16 members raising bees with about 500 colonies, the average annual honey output from beekeeping of the members is from 700 to 1,000 liters of honey supplied to the market. To operate effectively as well as affirm the Trung Giap honey brand, members are supported with training, learning and exchanging beekeeping experiences in many localities developing the profession. In addition, members are also proactive in learning how to take care of honeybees, make cages, and arrange reasonable distances between cages.

Beekeeping does not require much investment, only need to invest about 200,000 VND to own a beehive to multiply the colony. Beekeeping in Trung Giap is mainly done by natural methods, taking advantage of the benefits given by nature, thanks to the advantage of abundant and rich flower sources from hybrid acacia forests, fruit trees in the area... creating opportunities for the bee colony to develop.

Mr. Ha Van Thanh - Deputy Head of the Trung Giap Commune Honey Bee Cooperative has a lot of experience in beekeeping with an income of hundreds of millions of VND/year.

The brand of honey products of Trung Giap Commune Beekeeping Cooperative is increasingly trusted and favored by the consumer market because of its clear labels and traceability stamps. In particular, at the end of 2022, the honey products of the Cooperative were certified to achieve 3-star OCOP, thanks to which the value increased, and the wholesale and retail prices of honey were significantly improved.

Mr. Bui Tho Toan - Zone 6, Trung Giap Commune said: "If before joining the Group, my family would retail honey to regular customers easily, but it would be difficult for strangers because sometimes they doubted whether the product was really good or not. Now joining the Group, the products are checked, produced using natural methods, have traceability stamps, thanks to that the selling price has also increased, about 250 - 280 thousand VND/liter, depending on the type of flower that produces honey.

And since then, the honey products of the Trung Giap Commune Beekeeping Cooperative have become closer to consumers and are highly appreciated for their quality. Currently, the products of the Cooperative are widely consumed in the market inside and outside the district, thus creating regular jobs for members with a stable income of 50-100 million VND/year.

The drops of golden honey are the result of the tireless labor of honey bees, the crystallization of the flavor of heaven and earth, of the love of Trung Giap people that is spreading and permeating. These achievements recognize the efforts of beekeepers here, marking the rise and further development of local agricultural products. This is the driving force that helps beekeepers love their job more, continue to develop production, business, and improve product quality in the coming time.
