On April 26, Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB) held its 2025 annual shareholders' meeting. At the event, shareholders were interested in whether the digital transformation strategy and application of artificial intelligence (AI) would cause MB to cut staff.

Regarding this content, Mr. Luu Trung Thai - Chairman of MB - said that the bank is focusing on prioritizing investment in two platforms for individual customers and corporate customers.

Investing in technology and digital transformation to solve the problem of labor productivity. In previous years, MB's human resources did not increase much but profits increased sharply due to the application of technology to increase productivity.

However, with a stronger expansion plan, MB plans to increase its staff this year, expected to add 1,000 people.

For more information, Mr. Vu Thanh Trung - member of MB's board of directors - said that MB's perspective in digital transformation is not to cut people but to increase working capacity when applying technology. When they have technology, they will shift to areas with higher value.

Meanwhile, many other banks have drastically cut staff. For example, at the 2025 annual general meeting of shareholders held on April 24, Mr. Nguyen Hung, general director of TPBank , said that the bank is promoting the application of technology and AI. The AI ​​system allows the bank to process a large number of loans and disburse quickly within a few hours.

"Innovating processes and streamlining the apparatus will help TPBank cut 300 - 500 more employees, reduce operating costs, and optimize operations," Mr. Hung shared.

Regarding staff cuts, Mr. Vu Van Tien - Vice Chairman, member of ABBank's Board of Directors - informed that the bank has boldly streamlined its apparatus, with some units cutting up to 30-40% of their staff.

The view is that it is impossible to continue to maintain a cumbersome, inefficient apparatus in the digital age, when the requirement is that one person can undertake the work of many people before.
